Personal History Galen Yosh was born on Trill in 2370 to atmospheric engineers Jorik Yosh and Nayara Yosh. Following the traditional path, he was accepted as a Symbiont Initiate and began his training while simultaneously pursuing acceptance to Starfleet Academy. In 2392, as a fourth-year cadet specializing in stellar cartography and helm operations, he was conducting field studies aboard the USS Majestic when his life changed forever.

When the Trellis symbiont's third host, Dorian Trellis, suffered a fatal shuttle accident far from Trill, the Symbiosis Commission faced a crisis. Galen was the only Trill within transport range who appeared to be compatible with the 151-year-old symbiont. Despite being years away from completing his Initiate training, his neural compatibility made him the symbiont's only hope for survival.

The Symbiosis Commission, operating under crisis protocols, approved the joining with minimal preparation time. Galen received only 18 hours of psychological briefing—standard emergency procedure called for 72 hours minimum, and he was still three years away from completing his Initiate training. This severely abbreviated process would prove to have lasting consequences.

The Dorian Trellis Legacy

Combat Service Record
Dorian Trellis (2341-2392) served as a Starfleet Marine during the Dominion War, participating in several of the conflict's most brutal ground engagements:

Battle of Tyra (2374): Dorian was part of the Marine contingent aboard the USS Sitak during the disastrous Seventh Fleet engagement. When the ship was critically damaged, he led evacuation efforts while under fire. He witnessed the destruction of 112 starships and was forced to watch helplessly as Dominion forces systematically destroyed escape pods containing his fellow Marines and naval personnel. The experience of being unable to protect those under his command became a recurring nightmare.

Siege of AR-558 (2375): Dorian served as a Marine squad leader during the horrific ground combat on the communications relay station. He personally led assaults against entrenched Jem'Hadar positions and watched young Marines under his command die in desperate hand-to-hand combat. The sight of his troops, some barely out of basic training, engaging in brutal close-quarters fighting with Jem'Hadar soldiers violated his fundamental beliefs about protecting those under his leadership.

Operation Return - Betazed Liberation (2375): Dorian led a Marine reconnaissance unit during the covert operations to retake Betazed from Dominion occupation. His team spent weeks behind enemy lines, conducting guerrilla warfare while witnessing the systematic oppression of Betazoid civilians. The moral complexity of their hit-and-run tactics, which sometimes resulted in civilian casualties, haunted him long after the mission's success.

Post-War Struggles
Following the war, Dorian declined psychological counseling, believing that his Marine training and Trill mental discipline were sufficient to process the trauma. He left Starfleet and spent his remaining years as a civilian security consultant, increasingly isolated and prone to violent nightmares, hypervigilance, and emotional numbness. His refusal to seek treatment ultimately contributed to the shuttle accident that claimed his life.

Upon joining, Galen immediately inherited not only Dorian's memories but the full emotional weight of his unprocessed trauma. The unprepared cadet found himself experiencing:

Intrusive Combat Memories: Vivid flashbacks to battles he never fought, complete with the phantom pain of wounds he never received
Survivor's Guilt: Overwhelming guilt over the deaths of Dorian's comrades, compounded by his own survival of the emergency joining
Identity Confusion: Struggling to distinguish between his own peaceful nature and Dorian's warrior instincts
Hypervigilance: Constant scanning for threats, making it difficult to function in routine Starfleet environments

Service Record 2388-2392: Starfleet Academy (interrupted by emergency joining)
2392: Emergency joining and extended medical leave
2393: Completed Academy and commissioned as Ensign
2393-2394: First assignment aboard USS Venture
2394-2396: USS Vengeance - Navigation Officer
2396-2398: Current assignment aboard USS Meridian
