General Overview Jack Hunter is a dedicated and resourceful Starfleet officer. Known for his sharp intellect and unorthodox problem-solving skills, Jack is often a valuable member of the engineering team. He thrives in high-pressure situations, often devising innovative solutions to complex technical challenges. Though his methods can be unconventional, his results consistently earn the respect of his peers and superiors.

Jack’s confidence and charm make him approachable, though his guarded nature and perfectionist tendencies sometimes create an emotional distance between him and others. Despite this, he is deeply loyal to his crew. His blend of technical brilliance, leadership potential, and a subtle rebellious streak makes him an asset to Starfleet.
Strengths & Weaknesses Strengths:

Ingenious Problem-Solver: Jack is exceptionally resourceful, often devising unconventional solutions to complex engineering problems.

Fearless Under Pressure: Ethan thrives in high-stakes situations, maintaining composure and clarity of thought even when systems are failing around him.

Dedicated Leader: He has a natural ability to inspire and coordinate his team, often leading by example but he often borders going against starfleet protocols.

Strong Morals: Jack is loyal to his crew and starfleet, making him a reliable ally in both professional and personal spheres.

Weaknesses:

Impulsive: In his drive to solve problems quickly, Jack occasionally takes risks that others might consider reckless. Also, he finds it better to fix the some things without the use of technology rather than with. Although, some fixes would be in violation of protocol or cause safety concerns.

Guarded Nature: While friendly, he tends to keep his emotions and personal struggles tightly controlled, making it difficult for others to truly know him. Although they sometimes do come out in public depending on the circumstances.

Perfectionist: Jack holds himself to very high standards, which can sometimes create tension in stressful situations. Although, sometimes, he doesnt hold himself to those same standards since he is often impulsive.

Troubled Past: His drive to succeed stems from a need to prove himself, rooted in a family tragedy that still weighs heavily on him.
Ambitions Jack’s ambition is deeply rooted in his past: to ensure that no family has to endure the pain of losing a loved one to preventable system failures, as he did when his father died in a warp core containment breach. He is driven to make starship systems safer, more efficient, and resilient under stress. Every project he undertakes and every problem he solves carries the weight of that personal mission—turning his father’s tragedy into a legacy of innovation and safety for future generations. Jack believes that through engineering excellence, he can honor his father’s memory and protect the crews who trust their lives with the technology we depend on.
Hobbies & Interests When not immersed in his work, Jack enjoys a range of hobbies and interests.

Holo-simulations: Jack often participates in problem-solving holodeck simulations, which he uses as both a form of recreation and a way to refine his engineering skills. He also uses this space to test the limits of his ideas and small inventions.

Music: Jack has a talent for playing the piano, a skill he inherited from his mother. While he rarely performs for others, playing music allows him to relax and reflect.

Adventure Sports: True to his fearless nature, Jack enjoys activities like rock climbing, hover-skiing, and zero-gravity diving, finding them exhilarating and a great way to clear his mind.

Personal History Jack Hunter was born on August 22, 2365, in Savannah, Georgia, on Earth. Raised in a family with deep roots in engineering and public service, Jack was one of three siblings. His father, James Hunter, was a Starship Systems Improvement Analyst for Starfleet Engineer Corps, while his mother, Elaine Hunter, worked as an astrophysicist specializing in pulsar studies.

Through childhood, Jack’s siblings, his twin brother, William, and their older sister, Katherine, were both academically gifted while Jack was more physically gifted and was able to excel in sports. William and Jack, however, wanted to follow in their father’s footsteps and aimed to pursue an engineering career in Starfleet, while Katherine aimed to pursue criminal law.

At age 15, Jack’s life was upended by tragedy. His father, James, was killed in a warp core containment failure aboard the USS Horizon, where he had been temporarily assigned to troubleshoot a persistent issue. An investigation later concluded the failure was caused by human error. The loss devastated the Hunter family and left Jack grappling with profound grief. Determined to honor his father’s legacy, he resolved to join Starfleet as an engineer, vowing to prevent others from suffering due to preventable failures.

In the years that followed, Jack became increasingly focused and driven. He immersed himself in his studies, particularly in physics, mathematics, and mechanical engineering, earning top marks. However, his relentless dedication came at a cost. He grew emotionally distant from his family, especially his mother, who struggled to connect with him after James's death.

William, meanwhile, also withdrew but in a markedly different way. Rather than channeling his grief into self-improvement, he developed traits consistent with a potential narcissistic personality disorder. He became increasingly convinced that he, not his mother, should take the lead in shaping the family’s future. William’s growing sense of entitlement and superiority alienated those around him. Attempts to address his behavior were met with resistance as he staunchly opposed any form of intervention or treatment, and his condition went unaddressed.

At 18, Jack was accepted into Starfleet Academy, where he pursued the engineering track with a focus on damage control. His time at the Academy was marked by both personal growth and intense challenges. Though talented, Jack frequently found himself at odds with authority, often pushing back against rigid protocols he believed stifled innovation. This rebellious streak earned him both the admiration of his peers and the scrutiny of his instructors.

One of his most impactful experiences came during a holodeck simulation designed to test cadets responses to a catastrophic system failure. When the simulated starship’s warp core began to overload, Jack bypassed standard protocols and implemented a daring workaround, rerouting power through auxiliary systems in a way that had never been attempted. While the solution was successful, the instructors documented the incident as an unnecessary risk. Nevertheless, it solidified Jack’s reputation as a brilliant but unconventional thinker.

In his second year, Jack formed a close bond with a fellow cadet, Mira T’Sar, a Vulcan specializing in computational systems. Mira’s calm, logical demeanor balanced Jack’s impulsive nature. As collaborators and confidants, they challenged each other intellectually and emotionally. Mira’s influence helped Jack temper his creativity with discipline and taught him the value of measured decision-making.

Jack also faced his share of setbacks. In his third year, he led a team project to design a new energy distribution grid for a starship. Despite his efforts, the design failed under stress testing, drawing public critique from the Academy’s engineering board. The failure was humbling and forced Jack to confront his perfectionism, ultimately teaching him to accept constructive feedback and grow from it. Although, he would never bury it completely.

A few months before graduation, Jack and William reunited, leading to a serious falling out. The dispute centered around what to do about their mother, who had grown isolated and emotionally withdrawn, never having recovered from James’s death. Though they eventually agreed to place her in the care of specialists from Starfleet Medical, the encounter made clear how far apart the brothers had grown. Their ideological and emotional divide was too great to bridge. William walked away from the family entirely and has remained out of contact with both his siblings and their mother.

Jack graduated from Starfleet Academy in 2389, earning commendations despite some challenges. His first assignment was aboard the USS Resolute, a Nova-class science vessel, where he served as a junior engineer. During his time on the Resolute, Jack honed his skills in real-world applications, often volunteering for challenging assignments to prove his capability and honor his father’s legacy.

His second assignment was on the USS Aquarius, where he was promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade and served as a senior engineer.

An opportunity came forward to serve in an even more daring role, onboard the USS Pioneer as the Assistant Chief Engineer.
