Military & Conflict

Philosophy of Warfare

El-Aurians historically viewed warfare as a failure of diplomacy, yet they also understand the necessity of self-defence—especially after the fall of El Auria. Their military philosophy is based on precision, containment, and minimising harm, rather than conquest or overwhelming force.

Conflict is approached with strategic foresight, long-term consequence modelling, and, when possible, non-lethal deterrents. This is reflected in both their military structure and their technological development, which emphasizes shielding, disabling, and temporal delay fields over raw firepower.

The trauma of The Exodus deeply reshaped El-Aurian attitudes toward military readiness. What was once a secondary pillar of society is now a core function of planetary survival.

Military Organisations

El Aurian Defence Force (EDF)

The principal military body responsible for the direct defence of Kaitos, its moons, and surrounding space. Operates planetary defence platforms, orbital stations, and phased perimeter arrays.

Commander - General: Position currently held by General Arlia Vo’neth Focus: Strategic planetary defence, cloaked patrols, and deterrent systems Notable Assets: Kaitos 1 Orbital Station, Phasing Grid, Tectonic Pulse Arrays (planet-based disruptors that can disable landing forces non-lethally).

El Aurian Exploratory Force (EEF)

Originally tasked with exploration and diplomatic outreach, the EEF now functions as an intelligence and reconnaissance arm, often intercepting signals, tracking possible Borg activity, and covertly monitoring galactic threats. Often disguised as civilian scientific missions Maintains stealth vessels and long-range surveillance probes Collaborates with Watcher-aligned theorists to predict conflict emergence through temporal echoes.

El Aurian Planetary Guard (EPG)

The internal ground defence and peacekeeping body. Trained in civil defence, crowd control, and planetary emergency response. Deployed during environmental threats or civil unrest Works closely with Peacewardens and city governance chambers Units often have specialized training in temporal anomaly containment

Watcher Strike Cells (Classified)

An unofficial, covert network believed to operate under a loose mandate from the Council, the Watchers are highly trained in temporal warfare and clandestine operations. Their goal is to subtly intervene in galactic events to preserve El-Aurian survival—without triggering broader temporal contamination. Their activities include: Pre-emptive neutralization of threats Recovery of temporal artifacts Influence of political events via indirect methods

Rank Structure (EDF Example)

Peacewardens – Civil-military hybrid roles, often retired military officers serving public duty
Lieutenant, Captain, Commander – Operate within fleets and stations
Colonel, General – Command entire theatres of defence
Commander-General – Head of the EDF; holds a permanent seat as Military Advisor to the Council

Starship Classes

El-Aurian ships are elegant, stealth-oriented, and deeply attuned to their users’ needs. Designs incorporate emotional harmonics, phasing tech, and memory interfaces.

Bela’na-class Temporal Carrier: Flagship class used during the Exodus. Known for its large capacity and chronometric shielding. The Bela’na itself was destroyed while protecting fleeing civilians.

EEL-class (Echo-Liner): Modular vessels used for diplomatic outreach and Diaspora reconnection. Notable ship: Tiree’s Whisper.

Varnelle-class Scout Cutter: A stealth vessel used for temporal monitoring and Watcher missions. Known for its “Quiet Trial” command qualification and long-distance phasing capabilities.

Historical Conflicts

The First Expansion Wars (circa 9000 BCE)

Little is known, but ancient texts reference a war with an unknown spatial anomaly species. Some scholars believe this conflict triggered the development of El-Aurian temporal sensitivity.

The Borg Incursion (2210–2265)

The defining military trauma of the species. The gradual collapse of the United Alliance culminated in the Borg’s attack on El Auria. General Zorvan T’San and his family led the last stand in a doomed attempt to hold back the Borg advance while civilians fled—a campaign now studied across military academies for its brilliance in the face of inevitability. The failure to save the planet forged a deep military doctrine of pre-emptive defence, memory as strategy, and survivability over victory.

The Exodus Skirmishes (2265–2345)

While wandering the stars in broken fleets, El-Aurian survivors were forced into dozens of minor conflicts—with pirates, rogue AI, and hostile planetary governments. These decentralized battles honed their current small-unit tactics, modular fleet designs, and stealth strategies.

Modern Covert Actions

While officially in peacetime, EDF and EEF forces have intercepted multiple Borg probes and foreign drones near Kaitos' phased coordinates. Though details are classified, council minutes have hinted at “temporal repositioning actions”—suggesting that some El-Aurian operations may now involve controlled interference with space-time to avoid conflict altogether.
