Episode 16 - Silent Cries
Location: SFMHQ, Earth - Lt. General Rosin's Office
Timeline: MD001 1300 hrs
Colonel Seamus O'Rourke sat outside Rosin's office.
"Colonel O'Rourke, the General will see you now." The General's aide said.
She was a stern looking Vulcan woman with Gunnery Sergeant insignia.
Seamus stood up, "Thank you, Gunny." He said as he headed for the doors to Rosin's office.
The doors opened as he approached them.
"Good to see you, Jim." Rosin said rising from his seat. "Normally, I'd ask you to take a seat, but I have something formal to do first." Taking a small box from his desk, he moved to stand in front of O'Rourke. Removing the Colonel's insignia, he placed them in his pocket. "Its a great honour and pleasure for me to promote you to the rank of Brigadier General with all the rights and privileges within." He said as he replaced the insignia. He then stood back and saluted the new Brigadier General.
Seamus returned the salute and said. "Thank you, Sir."
"You're welcome, but I can't take all the praise, it was a joint decision." Rosin said. "At ease, you can now have a seat."
Seamus did so.
"Now that's over, how about a drink to celebrate?" Rosin said returning to his seat.
"One can't hurt." Seamus said with a smile.
Rosin opened a drawer in his desk and pulled out a bottle of Jamison's and two glasses.
He poured one for Seamus before pouring one for himself. "To your promotion and the Corps." He toasted.
"To the Corps." Seamus repeated and they both took a drink.
"Smooth." Seamus said as the liquid made its way down his throat. "20 year old?" He inquired about the whisky.
"25." Rosin corrected him.
"Good, where did you get it?" Seamus asked.
"It was a birthday gift from the wife." Rosin replied.
Seamus smiled. "She always did have good taste in whisky."
"You're bias, because Mary was born in Ireland, like yourself."
"Perhaps."
"Speaking of wives, how's Titania?" Rosin asked.
"I hear she's helping out in Sickbay on Empok Nor." Seamus said.
"You hear? Haven't you talked to her?" Rosin asked.
"Not since we separated." Seamus replied. "its been almost 2 years."
"Well, that works out well. Your new rank comes with a new assignment." Rosin said. "I'm sure you've heard through scuttlebutt, that General Elon Tramak is taking early retirement, in the next few months. You'll be replacing him as commanding officer of SFMC Nostromo on Kormett 3."
"Kormett 3, isn't that close to Empok Nor?" Seamus asked.
"Yes, hopefully you and Titania can work things out while you are there."
"Bob, you old romantic." Seamus teased.
"Well you got me and Mary together, the least I can do is help you and Titania reconcile." Bob Rosin said sincerely.
"I think it will take more then just us being in the same place at the same time to achieve that, but I appreciate the gesture." Seamus said.
Rosin smiled. "So, how about the rest of your family?" He asked. "I know Andrew's serving on the USS Response as CO of their Marine detachment, Liam working with Intelligence on something hush hush, and Edward is assigned to the Cure on the USS Pioneer."
"So what you're really asking is how is my relationship with Hermia?" Seamus said.
"Well, yes. I know how hurt you were when she chose 'fleet over the Corps and married that bastard Moreno, but she went though Marine boot camp, just to make you happy, and gave you a smart and beautiful granddaughter, and finally kicked Moreno to the curb." Rosin said.
"True, and she spent 8 years attached to the Corps. Unfortunately I'd call our relationship strained." Seamus replied.
"Well, the USS Pioneer is stationed out of Empok Nor, perhaps you could have the Pioneer take you to your new assignment and kill two birds with one stone."
"That's a good idea. I'll try it." Seamus said.
"I know, that's why they pay me the big bucks." Rosin replied with chuckle.
Seamus's reply was interrupted by the voice of Rosin's aide-de-camp. "Sir, you wanted me to remind you when Major Hawkins arrived, She is currently waiting in your outer office."
"Thank you, Gunny, tell her, I'll be ready for her momentarily." Rosin said.
"Looks like its time I left." Seamus said. "Good seeing you again, Bob, and thanks for the promotion." Saying this he stood up.
"You too Jim." Seamus said. "Mary asked me to invite you over for dinner, 1800 Thursday.
"I'll be there." Seamus said and left the office.
