Mission:
Episode 16 - Silent Cries
Location: Empok Nor
Timeline: MD002 1100 hrs
"Here we are," Audie muttered to Buster as she freed him from his travel crate and set him on the deck. The one-eyed ginger cat was only just getting used to his harness, but along with Annie's tea parties and Mindy's romps, the cat was losing some of his freedom.
He'd pretty much had the run of Poseidon Station, especially before Audie had 'adopted' him and has his nibblets removed, so being restricted to a harness was not something he was enjoying.
Still, the sights and sounds of a new station were enough to have him ignoring the inconvenience, although he was slinking low to the deck, as if he could walk below the harness.
"Don't get too comfortable," she continued as she strolled farther onto the station, "we won't be here too long."
Empok Nor was just a 'jumping off' place, until they boarded Pioneer, the current assignment. She wasn't sure exactly why she'd been reassigned, but she wasn't the only of the Kingsmen to be transferred here, and she knew you didn't ask questions.
For now, she was going to enjoy her time on a different station, and right now the priority was a good meal!
Comfortable for Vura, was probably not comfortable for most people. Most people might consider athletic wear, a sweatsuit, or yoga pants comfortable. However, the Deltan would not be caught dead in public in those types of outfits. Instead, she opted for a navy blue V-necked dress. The short-sleeved A-line dress had light ruffles on the sleeves. It also had chiffon lining at the bottom. From the knees down, her legs were visible. She wore a matching pair of navy blue, stiletto three inch heels. To complete the outfit, she wore two gold bracelets on her left arm and made up her face with rose blush, blue and purple eyeshadow, and rose lip gloss.
Deltans always attracted attention when they walked and normally Vura did not try to notice it but today, after delivering the news, she relished a bit of the attention as she strutted along the promenade. Of course her pheromones were muted compared to an Orion when walking. Touch was practically deadly to anyone. Yet, the same was not true of animals. So when she saw a one eyed cat, she immediately headed towards it. "Oh, my little pussy.... What ever happened to you? I should take you to the Pioneer and see if we can fix you up. Would you like that?" She held out her hand for the cat to decide how it felt about her.
Startled, Buster blinked his good eye as he examined the woman talking to him. He'd smelled her coming, a strange, alluring aura, and his curiosity kicked into high gear.
"Meerrrow."
At the other end of his leash, Audie was startled as well, not that she minded anyone talking to the cat...it was expected, and as long as they weren't attacking, she didn't care.
But this woman...wow! While she found her intriguing, Audie was also a bit overwhelmed at the clothes, the heels, the whole look. Yes, she was beautiful, but Audie would have to be dragged kicking and screaming to put on anything like that! She was content in her combat boots and cargo pants, or at best a long broom skirt and frilly poet's shirt.
But, to each his own, and she wouldn't judge anyone by how they dressed. Besides, she was nice to Buster!
"Way he tells it, Clara's Rat King was trying to take over Poseidon Station, and he was the only one who stood between the station and rat annihilation!" She laughed and shook her head. "I found him that way, so I really don't know what happened, but it doesn't slow him down."
Vura asked Audie, "Oh, so this is your sweet pussy, then? What is his name and what is yours? I think that it would be impolite to call you by pronouns, don't you think?"
"This is Buster and I'm Audie Fitch." Audie grinned brightly. "And I've been called all sorts of things, so I don't mind what I'm called. Buster, on the other hand..."
"So, you have been at Posiedon Station. Pioneer was there not too long ago. That's where I boarded, in fact."
"Yeah, I was with the Marines there, so I wasn't quite so upset when I found out it was Pioneer I was being reassigned to." As she answered, Buster started rubbing his head against Vura's hand, purring loudly.
Vura pet Buster. She closed her eyes as she let all of her fingers enjoy the unique textures of Buster's skin and hair. There was an audible "Mmm," as the Deltan explored further. "How I do miss this," Vura informed Audie, opening her eyes. "Were I to do any of that to you, there would be the risk of insanity and you becoming my slave forever. While that could be fun for a little while, it would get utterly boring. One of the many reasons for the Oath, you see...."
"I prefer not to be petted anyway," Audie chuckled, "and besides, I might bite." She knew of Deltans, of course, but had never met one, and found the sensation both intriguing and disconcerting.
Switching subjects Vura continued, "So, you're going to be a marine on Pioneer. My, my. We do seem to be getting full of them. Quite different from the standard officers.... Why did you want to become a marine, Audie?"
"Structure, I think." Shrugging, Audie shook her head. "Life was a bit unsettled when I was a kid, and the military offers consistency and structure...I'm not planning on making it a career, though, I plan to own a freighter someday." She didn't mention that military service had essentially been court-ordered!
"What about you? What's your claim to fame?"
Delicately, Vura raised the hand not petting Buster and inverted it. The fingers lightly touched the area just above the V from the V'neck and she got an innocent smile over her face as she said, "Oh, my! Did I not introduce myself?"
Her eyes looked directly at Audie and said, "Well, then you should know that I'm Vura, the Chief Counselor on the Pioneer." She beamed a large smile over at Aude. "Now, structure is fine but you should let yourself live a lot more. After all, petting is quite pleasant and so is biting if done with proper technique."
Counselor? Here we go again!
Audie mentally berated herself for judging the woman before she even knew her...it wasn't fair. "Shipmates! I'm looking forward to being on Pioneer. And don't worry, I get into my share of mischief, and there's nothing like a good bar brawl!" Petting and biting, not so much!
She tsked for a moment, her hand coming away from her chest and lying back on her lap. "From your response I can only guess that you are currently not involved in a relationship. I wonder why that is."
"Because I haven't met someone I want to move into my life yet..." was her tone a bit defensive? "And I don't feel a desperate need to have someone to 'complete' me." She'd been asked a few too many times by 'family' the same thing, so it annoyed her. Having a mate was more than having some other body you went home to, and it wasn't something to be hunted down and 'found'. And from what she'd seen in many relationships, it was better to be single!
Touched a sore subject, have we? Vura observed, smiling all the while. "Who said anything about moving someone fully into your life or having someone 'complete' you? That's all rubbish. But humans are not meant to be alone and, well, you sound like you could use a release of some endorphins."
Sympathetically, she tilted her head and asked worriedly, "Has someone hurt you in the past?"
This was why Audie hated getting into this...very few seemed to understand that people were different, so trying to peg them into pretty little holes didn't work...and the more you tried to explain it, the more they tried shoving you into the hole!
"Sure, I've been hurt plenty, but not romantically, so that doesn't have anything to do with it." She shrugged. "I have plenty of friends...heck, I live with a bunch or 'Hoo-Rah!' Marines, and were family. It's that 'one true love' thing. If it happens, it happens, if not, I'm happy to be blissfully single. There have been plenty of Human hermits! And as long as there's cats...."
Vura looked at Audie more curiously. "Cats are definitely welcome, especially to someone who cannot touch anyone as long as she's serving in Starfleet. So, um, how do I delicately phrase this? Are you telling me that you have never been romantically involved?" God, humans are just so prudish! I thought that there was supposed to be biological imperatives in them. They're like children.
"Oh, sure, I've had boyfriends, but I was young and stupid, and I know now that it wasn't good for me." She shrugged. "Seemed like family at the time, like they really cared, but then you grow up and know better."
And maybe because she worked so closely with males, she was more inclined to see them as friends, co-workers, not in romantic terms.
"So, why is it so important to you that everyone finds their Juilet?"
"It isn't," Vura answered smiling. "You are the person that keeps bringing up permanent relationships. I have suggested nothing of the kind. If you recall, I said that was rubbish. So, I have to wonder what makes you keep repeating that. Did someone in your past make your self worth based upon that?"
"One man's rubbish...." Audie grinned and shrugged. "I guess I'm just old-fashioned, thinking of a relationship as a life-long commitment. That doesn't mean there aren't friends." She supposed that she thought that friends were to be valued, and not just taken in the moment then tossed aside.
"Anyway, all this discussion has me famished, can you suggest a good place to eat?"
"That's pretty good avoidance and distraction techniques," Vura observed. "But I won't push. You're not ready and I only play with people that want to play. Perhaps another day, you will feel differently."
She focused her attention on Buster, letting her fingers run further through Buster's hair. "I've never gone to the same place twice and my choices in eating, well, are based on things that I have not done before. So, I'm not likely the best reference for a place to eat."
"Ah, well, I'm sure there's a burger joint around here someplace...hopefully not all replicated." Audie grinned, ignoring the comment about 'avoidence'. To her thinking, she wasn't avoiding anything...if it ain't broke, don't fix it! "You can join us, if you'd like."
Well, she still wants me around. That's interesting. Well, we'll see what else she divulges and how we can help her. Alluringly, Vura took her hand from Buster. "I would enjoy that. Should I carry Buster? Would he allow that? It is so rare that I get to touch anything living."
"Oh, sure, he's pretty lazy, so he won't mind a ride!" Chuckling, Audie unclipped the leash from Buster's harness and picked him up to hand to Vura. "He might climb up on your shoulder."
The cat was purring, and it was easy to feel the low vibration that indicated contentment. It must be hard, Audie thought, to have to limit physical contact. While she was independent, Audie still appreciated a good hug now and then, so it must be pretty lonely not to be able to hug.
Vura took the cat carefully from Audie, making certain that no part of her touched Audie. "Go on Buster," she told the cat. "Make yourself comfortable. I will not let you drop."
Audie grinned, watching as Buster melted into the woman's arms, rolling to his back and making 'air biscuits'.
"Looks like you have a new friend!" She'd never thought of Buster in the capacity of a therapy cat, but under the right circumstances he really could be comforting. "And he's got good taste, so..."
They came to a place that advertised 'classic' burgers and milkshakes, among other things, and Audie stopped. "How's this?"
Vura smiled at Audie, "This is perfectly fine. As I explained earlier, I am not picky. I relish new experiences. So, if you're happy, I am more than pleased." She again ran her fingers through Buster's hair and massaged his skin as she did so.
"Certainly you've had burgers before?" It was a pretty generic Earth staple and was usually good be it natural or replicated meat, or something vegetable based. "Besides, this place has some tables outside, so we don't need to worry about Buster being unwelcome." Not all establishments permitted pets inside.
Audie settled at a table, chuckling at how at home Buster was with Vura. "Oh, they've got peach shakes!" Audie was good with any kind of shake, but peach was among her favorites! "And a jalapeno bacon burger! I think I know what I want!"
"Oh, I've had burgers before, but never the same one twice. There's just so many varieties and the textures are all so different." Audie could almost sense Vura salivating. "I definitely have never had a peach shake. I shall have to try that."
Looking over the menu more closely, Vura examined her options. "Hm. I will have the Wagyu burger with roasted garlic and well, what do you think, Audie?"
"Oh, that's a good choice, too!" Audie laughed. "Of course, I'm biased...just about anything on a burger...well, except anchovies, and I don't like wasabi...and it has to be dead already!" That was something about burgers, you could put all kinds of things on them, from bleu cheese to pineapple, and they were still good!
With their orders placed, Audie leaned back, looking at Buster, who was curled happily in Vura's lap. "Cats are good judges of character, you know."
"Wasabi and anchovies? I should have to try those on a burger too, then!" Vura exclaimed debating ordering a second burger. "And as to cats, I cannot say but I will say that this one enjoys me and I enjoy him."
"You're welcome to borrow him now and then," Audie told her, then observed, "It must be a kind of torture not to have physical contact, especially when that seems so important. You must be really dedicated to Starfleet to give that up."
The counselor stiffened at the mention of joining Starfleet. She did not want to think about her past or why she left and tried to smooth her voice as she answered, "It is difficult to not have physical contact with people, of course." She then cheered up, "But that is only one of so many senses that I can utilize. For example, I am very much looking forward to enjoying the sensations of the shake and the burger, but I thank you to grant me access to Buster."
Ah, so she'd hit a soft spot, not that it had been intentional. And Audie certainly wasn't going to push the issue.
"Oh, you're welcome, but I think Buster is the big winner here!" She laughed. "I guess it makes sense about sense! Have you ever had a sound bath?" There was something that caused amazing sensations without any touch involved.
Vura laughed about Buster being the winner. "Well, Buster can win as long as he would like. As to the sound bath, yes, I have. However, nothing replaces the feel of water and lather all over your body." She closed her eyes as she could envision it. "Oh, yes, and fingers tracing every inch of your body, the smallest bubbles that form on your skin...." She shook her head and sighed with a small squeal. "Sorry," she said as she opened her eyes. "I can get carried away."
"Nah, that's fine." Chuckling, Audie shook her head. "I do that with food when we're in the field for long periods, stuck with those MRE's. I imagine that it's real food, I can taste it, smell it. Anyway, I was talking about a different kind of sound bath...it's more of a meditation kind of thing."
The food was delivered, and Audie breathed deeply. "Yum!" Picking up her shake, she raised it in a toast. "Cheers!"
Vura raised her shake and replied, "Cheers!" She sucked some of it up through the straw, at first just enough to hit the tip of her tongue. Again, her eyes closed as she savored the sensation. She then sucked harder, allowing the shake's mixture to hit each and every taste bud of her tongue. After another long moment she finally swallowed. "Nothing like the fist taste of anything," she informed Audie.
"Unless it's wasabi!" Audie took a sip of the shake, savoring the flavors. It had been a while since she'd had a peach shake, and this reminded why it was one of her favorites. "Of course, the first time I had wasabi I thought it was guacamole, so I got a good helping." She laughed. "I didn't know your ears could burn from the inside out!"
"Oooh!" Vura squealed. "That must have been quite the experience! I should have to try that!" The Counselor was extremely excited about the possibility of experiencing that sensation. "But tell me, why is peach your favorite shake?"
"Not exactly my favorite, I think that would be mango, but I like the...freshness of fruit flavors. Sweet, but not too sweet." Audie grinned. "Kinda like me! Although I wouldn't turn down chocolate."
"They've got wasabi here, I think. You could try it now, just maybe get some milk, that helps ease the burn." Of course, people reacted differently to 'heat' in food, and Audie was sort of a lightweight!
"Why would I do that?" Vura asked while tilting her head. "I would not want to deprive myself of such a unique sensation." Her tone was sincere.
The counselor then returned to the topic of Audie and asked, "Sweet but not sweet? Why would you say that? And proudly?"
"Live dangerously?" Audie laughed. "I guess I get enough of that when we're on a mission. And I'm a sissy when it comes to my food..I want it yummy but not deadly! As for sweetness, sometimes desserts are just...well, so full of sugar that you can't taste the rest of it." Vura's actual question went over her head.
"I see. So, you're completely different professionally than personally." She savored a bit of her burger before continuing. "But it still didn't answer my question why you would say that you're sweet but not too sweet."
"Oh...." Audie chuckled and shook her head. "That was just a joke." And some people reacted differently to silly quips! "Of course, I fancy myself a generally nice person, but if I'm pissed off, look out!"
"Oh?" Vura asked, quirking up her painted on eyebrows interestedly.
"Yeah...a joke, sort of sarcasm. And really, I don't mind getting into a good fisticuffs when it's called for. After all, can't be a Marine and be all sweetness and light, right?"
"I don't know about that," Vura replied thoughtfully. "You could be completely sweet and light off duty but do what is necessary when you're in your job. I've never found violence to be a good way to solve a problem."
"Depends on the enemy," Audie countered with a shrug. "Some just aren't reasonable, and will do whatever it takes to eliminate you, and talking yourself blue in the face won't change that."
While she had no particular issue with negotiating, there were cultural and philosophical differences among peoples, sometimes there was no seeing eye-to-eye, and force was the only answer.
Vura had not been talking about war or military battles but was more concerned over Audie's ability to handle stressful situations or disagreements in general. She wondered aloud, "Do you see everyone as either a friend or enemy?"
"No." Frowning, Audie shook her head. "I mean, I don't consider people I haven't met as, well, anything, unless they've given me reason not to. I think I take everyone based on how they treat me, how they act toward others." She shrugged. "Although I do tend to have a negative opinion to people who are cruel to animals and kids."
"I think that's quite understandable. After all, it is rather barbaric to be cruel to them." She took a bite of her burger. Vura closed her eyes and audible sounds of pleasure emerged from her. Her hands remained inches from her face, still holding the burger as she slowly chewed. The sounds became louder and nearby folks started to turn their heads toward their table.
Well, it seemed that Vura was really enjoying her burger, and while, to Audie's senses, the reaction was a littl off-putting, she realized that, even among Human races, acceptable responses varied, much the less among different species. In truth, she thought, it was an outward showing of enjoyment where with most people you couldn't really tell if they liked something that much.
"This really is good, huh?" She broke off a bit of her burger and offered it to Buster before taking a big bite. "I hope the food on the crate is this good!"
"It is an exquisite meshing of sensations," Vura told Audie. "Food on the crate?" Vura's eyes screwed up slightly. "Do you mean the Pioneer?"
"Yeah, sorry, just a sarcastic nickname...not that I think Pioneer's a crate. I'm really excited to get aboard and see what she's like. Being on Poseidon station was nice, but I'm anxious to be on a ship...that's where my heart lies."
"Well," Vura started, stifling a small, pretty laugh. "If you like ships and action, Pioneer has plenty of it. The last mission had all of our chiefs of staff in a pocket universe. It was quite harrowing."
"Pocket universe?" Audie frowned. She knew about the Mirror Universe first-hand, but hadn't heard about a 'pocket' universe. "What's that? I hope no one was hurt or anything."
"Physically?" Vura asked. "Nothing that was irreparable. However, there are always mental scars." She took another long bite of her burger and savored it before continuing. "But, that's why there is me."
"Of course!" Audie chuckled and nodded. "They are fortunate to have you." And Audie was fortunate that her 'Mirror' self had been a friend, although it had been a bit disconcerting to fight with 'friends' who weren't who you thought they were. "You need a cat...or a puppy."
"Whatever would I do with one of those?" Vura asked. "And out of curiosity, why do you think that I need a pet?" The Deltan cocked her head towards Audie, careful not to disturb Buster.
"Well, seems like you take on a lot of angst from the people you help, but you can't even hug someone...so, maybe having an animal that can empathize with you, that you can hug when you need to..."
"There is one Deltan, well, technically two, on board other than myself, so I can get some physical intimacy if necessary." She laughed prettily. "I bet that you do not understand.... Coitus for us is like what you would consider a handshake."
"Ah, so easy! And...well, I think I might not ever look at a handshake the same again!" Audie laughed, then asked, "So, what happens if you are injured or sick? Will gloves provide enough protection?"
"They should," Vura confirmed. "If they did not, then we would truly be a complete threat to the Federation. Also, our consciousness is part of the reason that our touch is such a problem. Our subconscious thoughts, our frolicking, as you might call it, is transmitted through our touch."
"Oh, so slip you a Mickey and all is good?" Audie chuckled, then shook her head. "Well, I hope it never comes down to you being 'safe' to treat because you're unconscious! Or better, you just never need treatment at all...ever."
"Oh, my," Vura said placing her burger down and giving Audie a mischievous smile when Audie mentioned slipping her a Mickey. "I had no idea, nor would I have thought that you had such a fetish."
Her smile turned down slightly for a moment when Audie suggested that she should never need treatment. It then perked up and became more mischievous. "Some sorts of treatment are highly desirable. You would not deprive me of that, would you?"
"Oh, never! But those aren't the sorts of treatments we usually preform! And remember, I did suggest a sound bath...until you've tried it, you can't complain, right?" Audie gave her a wink.
"Not usually, you say," Vura asked with a sly wink. "Are you saying that you would save them for me?" Her voice went higher towards then end of her question. "Such an honor. Are you suggesting taking a sound bath with me?"
Audie raised her eyebrows and gave a wry grin, then finished off her shake and stood. "Yep, c'mon, let's go find a holodeck, my treat. Naked. Unless you're afraid?"
That humored the Deltan like nothing else. She laughed heartily. After catching her breath, she told Audie, "The only person that I would be afraid for is you." Her hand flew into the air laxadasically. "Well, if you think you can handle the pheremones and the mystique of a Deltan, by all means, treat me to this sound bath."
She then looked at Buster. "And what will we do with our pussy here?" She audibly hummed, "Hmmm?"
"Puss can wait outside...it agitates him, I think because of the frequencies." Shrugging, Audie led the way to the holodecks, tapping in her program to an empty one.
When they entered, the setting was a small meadow amid pine trees. Two thick mats were laid out, and there was a woman sitting nearby, several various sized bows in front of her.
"Please," the woman commented, her voice soft and soothing, "make yourself comfortable. Once we begin, just lay quietly, let the sounds wash over you, relax and enjoy."
Audie glanced at Vura and shrugged. "It's really and amazing experience, at least it is for me." She started peeling out of her clothes, since that was a promise she'd made to get Vura here. "Kinda centers my head, even helps with aches and pains."
Sitting on one of the mats, she waited for Vura.
Vura did not hesitate. Smiling mischievously, she decided to give Audie a little show. Slowly and surely, she peeled off her clothing layer by layer and let them drop on the floor near Audie. The Deltan was thin, perhaps a little too thin but there were hints that her body may have been more curvaceous in the past. Still, there was a certain allure to her that could not be ignored.
Vura hovered near Audie and asked, "So, where should I make myself comfortable? On you? No, no.... I would not want to take your mind. That would not be fair. No, I would rather that you get to enjoy this experience as much as I...."
Audie laughed. Even though she didn't find other females sexually attractive, she could still appreciate art when she saw it, and Vura was not shy at all.
"Well, if you want my mind, I think you might find it dull and lacking!" She laughed again, then patted the mat next to her. "Just lay down here beside me. Relax, let your mind go."
"Hmmm," Vura intoned. "I've found you more interesting than I thought you would be. There's more in that mind than you give yourself credit." She then took a position 3 meters away from Audie, silently wondering if she should give more space to avoid any accidental touch, and then laid down.
Impatiently she said in a sing, song voice, "Waiting...."
"Shh!" Audie chided with a little chuckle, then she took a breath and laid back, closing her eyes.
Using a padded mallet, the woman struck one of the bowls lightly, causing a low tone to echo through the room, then she struck another, smaller bowl, creating a higher tone. Audie could feel the sound reverberating through her, and she relaxed even more, letting herself go into a meditative state.
After a moment, the woman started running the mallet around the rim of one bowl and then another, making the bowls seem to 'sing'.
Vura allowed herself to relax. The sound washed over her and she stifled a giggle. This was definitely going to be an interesting experience. She was not certain that she enjoyed it, but was not everything the experience?
As the session continued, Audie felt herself going deeper into relaxation and she focused on the sounds, clearing her mind of anything else. The temperature in the room was just right, the lighting soft and dim...
The sounds faded, the last vibrations hanging in the air, and then there was a tinkling of bells, followed by the woman's soothing voice. "Relax and take your time."
Audie sighed and started to slowly sit up, feeling a little dizzy at first. Smiling, she looked at Vura. "Wow..."
Vura held her head. She had a marvelous headache. It was something that she would relish for a bit of time. "Yes, wow," she informed Audie as she rubbed the temples of her head with her thumbs. "This is an experience that I shall not forget soon. I really appreciate you giving it to me."
The Deltan smiled at Audie through the mild pain. "You really know how to show a girl a good time. Perhaps I could return the favor at some point soon."
"Might take you up on that!" Chuckling, Audie stood then started to dress. "Kinda curious to know what you are thinking." Then she frowned. "Are you all right?" Vura seemed distressed, but it was hard to tell.
"Oh, I'm fine," Vura told Audie as she continued to rub her temples. "Just a bit of a headache from this sound bath. Quite lovely, actually. I don't think that I've ever had one quite like this before. The new experience is quite remarkable." She beamed a smile at Audie. "And as to what I'm thinking for you, well, I have so many thoughts.... I will just figure it out."
"I'm intrigued." Audie wriggled her eyebrows, then frowned. "So, you like having a headache?" Well, maybe because the senses were so vital to a Deltan's being. "I didn't really consider that the sounds and vibrations might have an adverse reaction. Should have thought about it, though, considering the way Buster reacts. I think it hurts his ears."
"We definitely would not want to hurt Buster," Vura agreed readily. "I do not know that I would say that I enjoy having a headache. I do relish the unique experience of this particular unique one. I may or may not visit Hermia to fix it. My mood may change."
"So long as it changes for the better." Audie grinned as they left the holodeck. Buster was waiting for them, casually licking a paw and then 'wiping' his face. He didn't seem to notice them until Audie swept him up into her arms.
"Did you miss us?" The cat went limp and started purring. "Man, he's spoiled! As it should be!"
"Is it? Well, I should let you get on with it. Meeting you has been an unexpected pleasure. Perhaps we will see each other again on the ship?"
"Oh, no doubt! I had a great time, and it will be hard to avoid each other on the ship anyway." Audie moved in to hug her new friend, but caught herself short. "So, um...if you ever want to borrow Buster, just let me know!"
Vura grinned. They may have gotten off on an awkward foot but she genuinely enjoyed Audie's company. She also looked forward to doing something completely daring with Audie at some point in the future. Deciding what that would be, however, was going to be difficult. "Thank you for stopping short. I would have hated for you to experience something so very few humans ever have been able to handle and keep their sanity. As to Buster, if you don't mind me cat napping him from time to time, or at least visiting to pet him, I will definitely take advantage of it."
"It's an open invitation," Audie agreed, "and I don't know that I have that much sanity to keep!" She laughed, letting Buster down. "I had a good time, look forward to more. Have a good day!"
"You, too," Vura answered.
