Meeting The New Assistant Chief

Episode 16 - Silent Cries
Location: Milliways Restaurant - Promenade Lower Level - Empok Nor
Timeline: MD003 0800 hrs
Miliie had just gotten in from her shift, covering her mouth as she yawned. It was a long night, but she was able to get done with a couple of her projects. She went to sign out for the day well the night. There was someone new there, and this got Millie curious.
"Uh hello there, I'm Ensign Ambrose. You are brand new." giving a warm smile.
'Oh hello!' Jo said in greeting, with a friendly smile. "Nice to meet you. I'm Ensign Boone."
"Nice to meet you, so new person in engineering. What do you think of the place so far? Also, what do you like to do on your offtime?" Millie was interested, and was working on getting to know the people in engineering besides Connor.
'I really like it. A lot better than that old ship I was on" Jo smiled. "When off I do like to hang out most of the time"
"What shift do you work? And what position are you going to be working in? I work Gamma shift and do repair work on deck five. Also what do you like to do when you hang out?" Millie had loads of questions, maybe too many?
"Honestly I just go wherever they say. This is my first time on an intrepid. Worked Gamma on an old busted Excelsior though. Sealing patches all the time" Jo said. "My off time? A lot of holodeck time"
"What sort of holoprograms are you liking to participate in?" Millie still not realizing that she was speaking to the Assistant Chief Engineer. "And wow you know what you're talking about." A friendly smile.
"A little but of everything l" Jo smiled back. "Some running. Some swimming"
"Well got to figure out something that we can do together. I'm open to getting to know who I will be working with. What shift will you be working? Maybe we will get to work together on a project." Millie leaning up against the nearby wall with her shoulder.
"I'm available anytime " Jo smiled. "I'm just a commbadge away"
"Okay you sound like you have a flexible schedule. Have you met Elen the chief engineer? She's a really great person and I feel comfortable talking with her. We had an assistant chief engineer but they ended up leaving and don't know when we'll be getting another one." Millie giving a little bit of a shrug.
"I haven't, but that's on my list" Jo said. 'I look forward to it"
There was something about Josie, but she couldn't put her finger on it, Millie had to ask to get her curiosity to be satisfied. "So.. Josie are you regular crew or do you have a certain position that you are filling?"
*Assistant Chief. Or so my orders say." Jo replied and straightened her comm badge. "But you know how it is. Starfleet says go, I go."
"Well, I wouldn't have known that you were the Assistant Chief." Millie giving a little bit of a giggle, albeit slightly nervous. "You remind me a little bit of Elen rather chiill and relaxed. I hope I haven't embarrassed myself where you are concerned."
"Naw. It's all good." Jo said. "It was a great talk."
"Well do you have some questions or... want to go and get something to eat? Or do some more chatting? After all you are supposed to be on shoreleave. I know I seem a bit eager to get to know you better but, hey best to get to know the person you are working under?" Millie having a pleading expression in her eyes.
"I'd love to grab a bite and get to know one another." Jo began. "Sounds like fun!"
"How about we go to um..." Millie pulling out her padd to see where they could go eat at. Um there are quite a few places to choose from. Do you want to go have some Italian at Millways Restaurant? Or can even get a sandwich there. Whichever works right?"
"That works for me" Jo said. "Italian sounds good."
Millie gave a nod, "Milliways Restaurant it is then, for Italian food." leading the way.

A server led Millie and Jo to a table, where a basket of garlic bread sticks was placed upon the table.
"Can I get you something to drink while you decide what to order?"
Millie looked at the waiter, "I'll take a sparkling lemonade please with crushed ice, and also a pitcher of water please."
"I guess a sweet iced tea." Jo said
The waiter placed the menus on the table for the two laidies to pick their meal, then left. Millie immediately opened up the menu and looked at what was offered, her eyes lit up when she saw what she wanted. "I am going for the lasagna, with all the delicious cheese on it and meat sauce." looking up from the menu to Jo. "And side of breaded mushrooms. Oh my mouth is already watering. And also a salad."
"Um..." Jo thought. She took a quick second to think . She loved pasta after all. "Uh ... "Baked Ziti please. With some parm grated on top."
"Good choice." the waiter said then took the menus and went to put in the orders.
Once the waiter was gone, Millie took a drink of water from the glass that was there. "I think that you will enjoy being on the USS Pioneer, I know I am." giving a smile. A few minutes later, the waiter came back with the food for the two engineers, Millie inhaled the scent, and smiled."This is smelling delicious" then she took a bite and felt like she was in food heaven. This occupied Millie's attention, deciding to eat in companionable silence. She felt comfortable enough to not worry about doing chatting, while eating.
"It sure does!" Jo said
A bit of a smile from Milliem then she raised up her sparkling lemonade, to give out a toast. "A toast to you, May you feel at home on the Pioneer, and continue to press on in what you like to do. And also here's to a good working relastionship with us as well as the rest of the Engineering team!"
Jo raised her tea. "Cheers!" She replied.
