Mission:
Episode 16 - Silent Cries
Location: Security - Deck 9 - USS Pioneer
Timeline: MD004 0600 hrs
After Alyssa asked Jayna to help her find all the planets that were banned by the Federation, she searched through both the ship's and intel's computers. She wanted to be sure there was nothing intel knew that wasn't more or less known by ship captains and admirals. If there had been, it would have complicated matters, but in the end, she found three planets.
She accepted Alyssa's explanation about an alien approaching her in dreams, even though most of the crew didn't have them. But she was still a little hesitant to pass on what she found. So, she decided to talk to the chief of security in case she had inadvertently overlooked something.
To that end, she tapped her combadge. "Mira to Lieutenant H'ros."
" Ja'sol here. What can I do for you Lieutenant Jayna? "
"I'm researching planets that have been marked as restricted. I was wondering if I could meet with you to see if you have access to any information I do not."
"Not a problem, I am available at this time, where would you like me to meet you at? And why restricted planets in general? Information like that can be costly, It might even cost you the price of a Raktajino. " I say with humor in my voice.
Jayna chuckled. "I think I can afford your price. Alyssa Maren needs the information. There are three planets I know of, but I want to be sure that's all of them. Where depends on you. Where do you prefer?"
" That depends on if you want to keep this information on the down low or not. If you want these talks to stay classified, Then I would suggest meeting in the security office. If it doesn't matter to you them we could meet in the mess hall. "
"It's not classified, but it's not public knowledge. Yet. Perhaps I should come there. I'd rather let the captain be the one to break the news of this to the crew." When they found anything concrete to report. Jayna hoped that the lieutenant could help with that."
" I will meet you at my office in ten minutes Lieutenant Jayna, And we'll get to work on this problem of yours. I will see you soon.
Ten minutes later, Jayna rang the chime to Ja'sol's office, a PADD in hand with everything she knew so far about the mysterious planet.
" Enter" Came the response. Ja'sol looked up from his computer. So, what are we looking at today Lieutenant Jayna? "
"I'm helping Alyssa with some research," she began. "She wants a list of all restricted planets. So far, I've found three. But that is by using the main and intel computers. I was wondering if you had any other lists that might have more.: She set the PADD with the information she'd gathered on his desk.
He picked up the PaDD to see what is listed and read over the information.
" Well, this is pretty straight forward and shouldn't take too much time to find out the information. "
Jayna shrugged. "It is straightforward. I should have all that information in the intel computers, but I want to be doubly sure."
" The first planet has a pre warp culture equal to about Earth 1500 A.D. and has a Medieval society. The second planet is mineral rich and uninhabited, But has frequent and dangerous lightning and magnetic storms. The third planet is the mystery. Some years ago, the USS Daring was doing a survey of the area and neither the ship or crew were ever heard from again. Is that the same information you have on file? Ja'sol asked.
"The third planet is worth noting and isn't on my list. Can you tell me more about it?" It didn't sound like what she was looking for, but she could definitely get more information for future reference.
Ja'sol shook his head. " Sadly, the USS Daring didn't send back much information on the third planet.
Ja'sol looked over his PaDD and frowned. " There is no noted civilization on the planet, there is plenty of flora and fauna on the planet and abundant wildlife. There is no reason that the USS Daring and her crew should have disappeared without a trace and has been missing since 2310. What a Siva class destroyer was doing all the way out here is unknown and her mission wasn't listed either, which in itself is very strange.
"It is indeed. It is most likely that they ran afoul of disease or another ship. Disease is less likely as there would be bodies or other evidence. Unless they all beamed down to the planet and died there." She shook her head, making notes. It sounded more like something happened on the ship. "It is definitely a puzzle. How long after they went missing was the ship found?"
" That's the hitch, The USS Daring never was found. " Stated Ja'sol. If the ship was destroyed there would have been a debris field which would have been detected by the sensors, It's like the entire ship and crew just disappeared, and that is a theory that I don't buy. It was last reported in this sector. "
"That is good to know." She made a few notes on her PADD. "I will look into this and see what I can find. It's not the planet I was originally asking about, but it does have an intriguing mystery associated with it." She nodded. "Thank you for the information. Is there anything else you're aware of?"
" If it wasn't the planet you were asking about, then what were you wanting information on? And no, I have no other information on that planet at this time. " He thought a few moments. " The only thing I can think of that could account for the entire ship disappearing with its crew are a short list. First. A ship large enough to swallow and house a ship the size of a destroyer. Second. They were assimilated by the Borg and the ship went into Borg space. Or Third. They ran into a wormhole or other space anomaly and are in a pocket universe. Other than that, I can't think of anything else that would account for the disappearance of an entire ship.
Jayna took a few more notes. "The planet I'm looking for is forbidden for Federation personnel to visit. At least, that is the understanding. I'm gathering information for the chief science officer." She shrugged. "Wanting information and finding it are often two different things."
Ja'sol typed in commands on his computer concerning the planet in question and then frowned. " It seems that there is a lock on that information Mira. " He sighed. " It seems to have been placed by the federation security council and I should be expecting a contact of questions and wanting to know why I was looking at said information. Just what I needed, more paperwork. "
Jayna stepped up to his computer. "May I?" When he nodded and stepped back, she pulled up an encrypted screen and logged into her intel computer and authorized the search, then she cleared the screen. "That gave you intel authorization for the search. You should be fine now." And if not, she'd pass this up the chain as it was for research purposes. "Thank you for your time and information. I'll leave you to get back to your work."
