Edmund grinned, giving a nod. He was feeling better, this scenario taking back to the basics. It helped to get his head back into the frame of mind he needed to be in. He couldn't say it was all taken care of, can't go back in time to change things. Just need to push forward, the past is in the past, the only thing to concentrate on is the present and the future. "Thanks Gunnery Sergeant."
Hartman kept a straight face and nodded. "Sir. Don't thank me for wiping your ass. I'm not your momma. Like I said, you're only warmed up. Baby, he's all yours."
Behind Ed, a giggle broke the sound of the gym. "Oooh. Goodie," said a breathless, high pitched female voice. "C'mon soldier boy. Get yourself gloved up....Rock."
The last was said like she was asking a favor and a male voice rumbled, "Yo. Well. Yeah sure. The burly boxer, still clad in gym sweats walked over with a kit box and said, "Give me your hands general."
The sound of that voice made Ed whip around to see who that was, it reminding him of Vura and Emiko at first thinking that it was either of those two, his lips curled up in a snarl. Edmund held out his hands towards Rock, "Not a general, just a captain." Glancing at Rock before turning his attention back to, "Baby?"
Baby bounced on the balls of her feet in the center of the main sparring ring, hands wrapped and encased in eight ounce boxing gloves, her neck length, bright pink hair swaying slightly as she kept herself warmed up. "Yes sweety. The Colonel said you might like to take a few swings at a specific gender. We don't take offense to things like that in Miks." She giggled a little, then continued in what sounded like a tenor voice, which had both softness and grit in it. "I'm required to tell you the safeties are backed off so if you drop your left, you can get a black eye. Love that look on a man."
Taking a moment to get a drink and wipe down his brow, Edmund gave a smirk at Baby's comment.
Edmund was tempted in making a quip like 'Doctor Neil tends to keep his other people well informed.' but with that fact as to that thought, he refrained. Neil would find out and have Edmund's butt in a sling and then some. "and as for the ladies referred to, they do not know how to fight. At least not like this."
Rock huffed as he finished wrapping Edmond's hands and stepped back, keeping his head turned away from the ring. "She's not kiddin' either. Hits like a freight train for a girl."
"I've known some who hit just like that and kick like an onery Arkansas Mule. Nope not buying into the thought of girls can't fight." Edmund checking the gloves giving a nod towards Rock, "Thanks."
He watched as Baby danced in the ring, getting an idea as to how she moved. Oh yeah she was going to be a challenge. He moved his neck to loosen the muscles, rolling his shoulders. He slid off his shoes.
Edmund approached the ring, opening up the two ropes and sliding through them and onto the mat. The ropes bouncing just a little bit as they went back to their normal position. He bounced up and down to get the feel of the mat. "Okay, lets go." his gloves up and ready.
Baby giggled and circled to her left, gloves up and elbows in front. She flashed out a couple of practice jabs as she moved them in a slow, taunting circle. She let her elbows drift apart, revealing her chest slightly as she bounced from foot to foot.
Waiting.
When she thought she caught Ed's eyes dropping to her midriff (which was bare) she planted her left foot and lashed out with a hard right, crooning. "My eyes are up here lover boy."
Ed's eyes did lower, the waist was better than looking at her chest, his eyes did glide down. And he was well aware of her female form. He wasn't a eunuch. His eyes flicked upwards at her comment and felt his air rush out of him, her fist hitting his stomach. He staggered back, what a wake up call for him.
"You weren't lyin' about her punch" Edmund gasped out.
Bouncing back and forth, Baby baited her Edmund as she waited. As a hologram, she could multi-task. "Oh Eddy you're so fine. You're so fine you blow my mind, Hey Eddy. Hey Hey, Hey Eddy." She sang, then giggled again, before making a Come on gesture toward Merrick.
"Yeah," Rock's voice could be heard from ringside. "Only thing worse than her right is her left. And her tongue of course. Sharp as.. what did Mik say. "Sharper than an Adder and twice as deadly. I thought an adder was a guy who did the books, but I guess it's a snake."
"You know, you sing quite well." Edmund not letting Baby's song phase him. It was tough to truly get a read on Baby, as she was a hologram entity. Though Edmund highly suspected that Neil had put in quite a bit of his own fighting skills in this program. Now if he can have his head together enough to start really using his skills. He moved forward making what seemed to be a half-hearted punch towards Baby's face.
Baby stepped into the punch, letting it snap her neck to the side. Turning back to Ed, blood welled at her nose and her eyes got big. "You hit me!! You brute!!" She sobbed at him, her eyes getting big and tears starting. Then she grinned maliciously and tried to hook his shoulders in preparation of driving a knee at his groin.
A half-smile, as Edmund blocked her attempt to grab him by the shoulders with a sweep of his hand and a side step away. He was testing her. Even though Baby had a computer for her mind, still he was seeing what she was capable of.
Merrick's sidestep let Baby get herself centered in the ring and she began to send a steady stream of hooks and punches, constantly turning a half step with each, forcing him to travel further to stay facing her. He'd already been training for an precisely eighty-two minutes, twelve seconds. Every time she pivoted, she looked for a chance for a kick to his thighs or calves, looking to weaken already tired muscles and purposely was late in getting her left glove back up to guard after combinations to see if he would take the bait.
When she snuck a jab through his guard, she grinned and punctuated the next five rapid fire punches to his face with, "My. Eyes. Are. Up. Here, Eddy. Or are you trying to focus on my abs?"
Edmund grimaced painfully as Baby's jabs met their mark, he stumbled back, blinking rapidly. "Of course they are where they belong." he answered. "And the same for your abs. Can't help but stare at them. Better than looking at your chest." giving chuckle. He was going to make certain he wasn't going to go up against the ropes or corner. He danced around Baby hiding the fact that he could feel the bruises developing on his thigh. He made a move towards Baby, deliberately going two steps past her, he did a half turn doing an elbow strike to Baby's back followed by him grabbing her shoulder hooking his leg to pull her off her feet backwards using his thigh as leverage and slamming her to the floor of the ring. He was quick to pin her down straddling her hips, and pinning her shoulders.
Blinking up at the marine, Baby pouted then arched up at him and asked, "And what's wrong with my chest? Nice move Eddy. Do I get dinner and a wake up after a move like that?"
This time Edmund looked at Baby's curves and dang it if it made him blush.Ed quickly rolled off of Baby, and moved out of her reach. "Its a sure fire way to keep from getting hit. And honestly, with how well you fight, you're wearing me down even more. And you rang my bell pretty darned good. I'm calling an end to this fight." Edmund moving backwards to where the ropes were at and climbed out of the ring. Not taking his eyes off of Baby.
Pouting, Baby rolled her hips and did a nip up. Tapping her gloves together, she moved to one of the turnbuckles and leaned her back against it, arms draped over the ropes. "Fine. I'm not wearing any of those t-shirts though. You're staying power leaves something..." Grinning she began stripping off her gloves and eyed Merrick through sweaty bangs."
Edmund just chuckled, "Whatever you say Baby, and what t-shirts are you talking about?" raising an eyebrow "And as much as I'd like to continue, I've got a mission coming up, and can't get myself messed up more than what I have been." Edmund giving a shrug.
Edmund looked around for Mik. "Mik was there anything else that needed to be covered? What about you, Gunnery Sgt. Hartman?"A data-stream cascaded in a nearby mirror and Harman formed within that stream, stepping out. His campaign hatted head indexed toward Merrick. Looked him up and down and said, "There's not much difference between a clump of clay and a clump of drahk, sir. You asking me if there is more doesn't show much initiative or desire on your part. Instead of asking if there's anything else, the correct FMC way would be to say 'What's Next,' indicating you were ready for more." Hartman's lips curled into a sneer and he said, "But given you look like something I did scrape off my shoe, or maybe wiped off my backside. You're done. I think Baby stuck a fork in you."
"Yo, ease up on the general gunny," Rock said as he walked up. Rock had a white T-shirt with light orange lettering with what might be naked female silhouette's bordering the words Merrick's Merry Maids. "Great shirts general," he told Merrick with a wide grin. "As much fun as Jayna's calendar. I think they'll be on sale at the Cure's gift shop in a few days. Along with maybe these if we get the ok." In one hand he held a swimsuit calendar with Jayna's signature and in the other a graphic novel cover depicting the Merry Maid's logo and a highly dramatized Edmund Merrick, shirtless with a bevy of scantily clad women behind him as he confronted some danger. "I think it's a cross between a romance novel and a manga magazine...at least that's what Baby called it... pretty great huh?"
Edmund's lips curled up in a snarl and walked up to Gunnery Sergeant Hartman, his nose almost point blank to Hartman's "Alright Gunny enough of that crap. I don't care what you think of me but say it with respect! You're right I shoulda said What's Next. I know what's next and that is seeing to my Marines. And this was to get my mind out of the frame it was in and back into something a bit more sane. And if I didn't get out of that frame I would be the cause of someone's death, especially Neil's because of my brain being half-cocked!"
Rock's words caught his attention and Edmund whirled around. "What the- Rock?! Who the heck put this together. And I am a captain not a general." he looked at the t-shirt then the calendar. He closed his eyes with a groan, his gloved hand over his face. "Sobel's and even Tyler's going to kill me. Though--" lowering his hand, Edmund as he was taking off his gloves, looked at the calendar with Jayna on it. "That is well done and-" he took the calendar to get a closer look at it, noticing something, Ed's face turning slightly red. He handed the calendar back to Rock.
"Well now whoever had created these, has the eyes of an artist. Even the t-shirt. I've never thought myself to be considered something good enough to be on a t-shirt let alone--What the heck Neil, I'm going to have a talk with him." Edmund not knowing how to process this. He was flattered with the artistry but that- Merry Maids. Bodice ripping book. Yup this had the earmarking's of Neil. Edmund frowned.
Hartman watched Merrick dispassionately, waiting until the captain's focus moved back to him and said, "Well it's about time. Sir. Respect is earned. It just doesn't go with those bars like fries." He turned his gaze then toward Rock and his shirt and met Merricks eyes. Merry maids? I take it they're not a cleaning crew?"
