Mission: All Our Yesterdays
Location: After 11 - Deck 11 - USS Pioneer
Timeline: MD004 2100 hours (The Evil That Lies Beneath Mission)

After 11 was always a good place to watch the stars go by when at warp. Although the same could be said of any window but as it was at the rear of the ship with a large window view of the outside it made it a more panoramic sight.

Lachlan sat by the window as a drink was placed on the table. "Thanks Chloe." he said looking at her as she smiled.

"No problem. Everything okay?" she asked.

"Perfectly fine. Just been a day." Lachlan chuckled tipping his glass slightly towards her.

"Well, you know where I am if you need to talk." Chloe said as she walked off back towards the bar.

Maeve had had a whirlwind of a day. If it was one thing she always appreciated about star ships was the fact that at some point a pub would appear. She nodded to the barkeep as her drink was slid into her hand. She took a sip of the scotch on the rock she had requested.

She was always intrigued by watching them move past the ship. Despite having been raised in deep space, watching the stars was not something she had had the luxury of doing often. One of the many loves she had about the diplomatic corps was the fact that she was planet side so often. The hum of the warp engines and the movement she was always told was in her head got to her sometimes.

Maeve's eyes closed as a bit of vertigo hit her. Throwing out her hand she grabbed something that she sure hoped was a table, an empty one would be best. She felt herself leaning again, aware that her first priority was to protect the amber liquid in her glass.

"I'll need to get someone to check the inertial dampeners if people are getting dizzy." Lachlan commented as grabbed him. Quite the surprise as the woman in front of him seemed to care more for her drink than where her other hand went.

"Not that I mind a woman grabbing my arm to stop her from falling, but we can't make a habit of it." he teased as he led the woman to sit across from him. "You alright?" he asked.

"Aye," Maeve replied still a bit off kilter. "I'm grand, still gettin' used to not bein' planet side." She grinned at the man who had kept her from spilling her drink. "Ye'd think growin' up on a freighter, I'd adapt faster." She took a sip of the liquid in her glass, leaving her eyes closed a bit longer. With a shake of her head she looked up at the man across from her. "Thanks fer the help, I am Maeve by the way"

Lachlan nodded. "Yeah, artificial gravity can take some getting used too. Nothing beats the real thing." he said as he returned to his own seat now across from her. "Lachlan. Nice to meet you." he smiled and gave a small nod of his head once again. "I was wondering when I'd bump into one of my new enlisted crewmembers." he hinted at his role on board.

"I t'ought ye looked familiar," She grinned. Maeve took a sip before she set the glass on the table top. She had taken the time to look over the manifest, she had known most of the officer she met in the Science department, and she had learned about the Marine who was covering the CoB position as well. She couldn't help the crooked grin that tugged at the corner of her mouth. "I apologize for not reportin' in sooner, sir."

"Don't worry about it." Lachlan replied with a wave of his hand. "I find you naval types to be a bit more relaxed in that regard." he teased. "We'll consider this you reporting in, and to be honest I prefer meeting like this. Sometimes marines can be seen as intimidating and I don't think of myself like that."

Maeve smirked, "In me experience, Marines are just men with big toys." She grinned as she took a drink. In all honesty, she didn't find too many people intimidating. From a service level, she was valuable and allowed that to make her a tad bit cocky sometimes. She also had a decade of experience with the politics of the fleet. "This ship seems a bit more laxed than what I am used to in the diplomat corp."

"Big toys we know how to use chief." Lachlan smirked. "But we do love blowing shit up too don't forget." he winked at her and chuckled to himself. "But yeah the crew has been together a long time and that breeds a closeness and relaxed atmosphere when we have the time to let our guard down. One thing I will say is when shit hits the fan, there is nowhere else I'd rather be. No crew I'd rather be with and that goes for naval and marine."

Maeve nodded and raised her glass slightly. It was nice to see a ship as cohesive as the Pioneer appeared to be, but she couldn't help the natural skeptic that sat on her shoulder. "So, if you don't mind me askin'..." She started taking a sip of her drink. "How does a Marine find himself the CoB? Double duty?" She finished with a question.

"There was an idea floated about, a project if you'd like to call it, to see if marine and naval didn't have to be divided anymore and could work as one cohesive unit. So we have a marine first officer, myself as CoB, but still doing our marine duties alongside the running of the ship as well." Lachlan replied to her. "Long days don't get me wrong, but I'm used to that and like to keep busy."

Maeve didn't want to admit that was more than a little impressed. It wasn't open that Navel and Marines even acknowledged that they were both Federation let along that they could actually work together. The thought brought a smirk to the corner of her mouth as she watched the CoB. Getting a read on most long-term enlisted was a challenge but a Marine made it all the more challenging. "Enterprising," She finally responded while taking a sip.

"Only so long you can keep a divide up." Lachlan nodded thinking of things such as the Berlin Wall back in old Earth history as well as the division in most cultures. As they move forward the walls tend to fall and people realise they are one people, not groupings of different people. "Plus, we get to show you naval bunch how to really put a shift in." he grinned.

Maeve knew he was ribbing her and that fine. Playful banter was always welcomed without the unsaid threats she used to deal with in the Corp. "By all means, sir." She lifted her drink in a movement that was a mix between a salute and toast before taking a small drink. The amusement shown on her face and she swallowed and savored the feel of the warm liquid moving though her. "I look forward to learnin."

"First lesson, don't call me sir." Lachlan raised an eyebrow and paused. Seconds hung in the air like minutes before he smiled. "Master Sergeant would be right, or Top if you are feeling informal. Sir's are for those that went to the big school." he winked.

As his eyes twinkled playfully he took a sip of his drink as his inner thoughts were interrupted by a call that would take him away from a delightful chat that had began. Hopefully he'd have another, he was always a sucker for an Irish accent. Taking his leave he smiled at the woman one more time, gave his apologies and left.
