Episode 16 - Silent Cries
Location: The Brig - Deck 9 - USS Pioneer
Timeline: MD001 0900 hrs
Walking into the brig, Rachel looked around the empty room for a moment before giving a sigh and walking over to the brig console. punching in her command codes, she set a 30 second delay for the brig's forcefield to activate before taking off her combadge and her rank pip, setting them down on the consoles controls before walking into the cell, sitting down on the bed and putting her head in her hands. As far as she knew, her career was over.
Merrick was trying to sort out things in his mind. There were ripple effects from Tyler and Rowena having been taken over by entities of an evil nature and the department heads having been swept away to someplace else. They were now back, but so much healing was going to have to take place. There was someone he was worried about, Ensign Sinclair. If the previous situation had affected him as much as it had done, the aftermath, may have dealt Rachel a blow to her self confidence.
Tapping on his combadge, "Computer, where is Ensign Rachel Sinclair?"
=^=She is in the brig.=^=
Edmund headed there, and once inside he was shocked to see Rachel inside one of the holding cells, "Uh, Rachel? What are you doing inside the holding cell? And you are not wearing your pip?"
Looking over at Edmund, Rachel gave a sad sigh before laying down on the bed, "I was discharged from Starfleet by the CO. I threatened a superior officer with a weapon, which is a court-martial-able offence. My career is over."
A moment of silence then Edmund gave out a slight sigh. "Perhaps Lieutenant H'ros should be informed on this matter and situation. I believe he is back from wherever he was at."
Tapping on his combadge Edmund sent out a message to Ja'sol. "Lieutenant H'ros, would you come to the brig please?"
Ja'sol responded in short order. "Not in my top ten places to meet at, But I'll be there in a few minutes." A few minutes later the brig door swished open and Ja'sol walked in and froze when he saw Rachel in an active cell. "Can someone please inform my why my assistant Chief is in a cell? I hope this is just you going above and beyond in your duties and doing a systems inspection of all the cells." Ja'sol walked over to the console and deactivated the cell. "Come on out of there Rachel." He walked over to a table and sat down and motioned the other two to join him at the table.
Taking a deep breath in, Rachel held it for a moment before releasing it. She had put herself in this cell due to an order from her CO, so she felt obligated to follow Ja'sol's instructions as well. Sitting back up, Rachel pushed herself off of the bed and sheepishly walked out of the cell and sat down at the table across from him. "Captain Malbrooke fired me"
Edmund took a seat across from Rachel, gazing at her for a moment, giving a bit of a wince at that news. He spoke quietly, "Want a coffee or some water? I'll get that for you, Rachel and also Ja'sol, would you like something?"
"I'll take a glass of rum please. I think I need something stronger than Coffee or Tea" Rachel asked.
Ja'sol looked up at Edmund. " I'll have a black coffee please, and the young lady will have a non-synth rum. And whatever your having Edmund. " He studied Rachel's face for a few moments before speaking. " So you want to tell me what happened? If I'm to help you I'm going to need to know. And I want to know the reasoning behind your actions. " He leaned back in his chair to hear her side of the story.
Giving a sigh, Rachel figured she should just lay it all out, “well, while the senior staff were missing, the other assistant chiefs and myself put together a plan to retake the ship from The Captain who we believed had been compromised. While I was securing the bridge with Sergeant Major Barr, Captain Malbrooke used his authority to charge me with treason, which is grounds for instant dismissal from Starfleet and imprisonment. So, once the ship was safe, I followed procedure and surrendered myself into custody” she said as she motioned towards the cell.
Edmund came back from the replicator with the requested drinks for Ja'sol and Rachel. He had chosen a ginger lemon tea with honey for himself. " taking seat, he took a sip of his tea before saying to Ja'sol and Rachel.
"Commodore Malbrooke was deemed unfit for duty, hence the plan to remove him from the bridge. He hadn't left the bridge for several days." Edmund giving a quick briefing. "He wasn't himself, and he had an entity within him. And the same for Commander McGowen."
" So we had a second entity? Just bloody great. " Said Ja'sol with a roll of his eyes. " I knew about the one in Commander McGowen as she was the one who sent me with the rest of the command staff. I believe that there is evidence enough to support that the Commodore and the CMO were both compromised? " He asked pointedly. " So you were protecting the safety of the ship and crew while you were trying to remove an entity that was a threat to the ship, therefore not treason. I also need to know what the status of the entities is. Killed, captured or driven out? " He asked.
"The entities have been driven out, I was there when it happened. Malbrooke and McGowan are now free from them. There will be a long process of healing and figuring out things as we go." Edmund taking another sip of his tea. "It may be a good idea for you to see that for yourself, Ja'sol." he added.
"wait, so I'm not fired?" Rachel asked, feeling a little confused. Her mind had become set in what she believed had happened, and unfortunately had chosen to block out any contradicting information, at least until Ja'sol had said it.
"Fired?" Said Ja'sol sounding confused, and then with a grin and a teasing look of shock on his face. "Fired? Absolutely NOT!!!" Trying his best not to laugh. "Someone has to keep up with all those reports and get those duty rosters posted." He laughed a hearty laugh. "Come on Rachel, I'll buy you dinner in the mess hall." He turned to Edmund. "I keep myself centered and grounded with daily meditation, and it helps me out a lot."
Edmund finished up his tea, giving a smile towards Ja'sol and Rachel. "Well now. I will leave you to it, have a good dinner." rising up from his chair, and placed a hand on Rachel's shoulder. "You're going to be okay, trust me, under the guidance of Ja'sol here. Things will work out just fine." turning toward Ja'sol, Edmund then stated.
"I'll see you around my friends." with that parting statement, Edmund left security.
Looking up at Edmund, Rachel nodded, "Thank you Captain, I appreciate it" she said turning back to Ja'sol, "and yea, a good dinner does sound nice, thank you sir"
" Thank you Edmund for bringing this matter to my attention. I owe you a drink or two for this. And good night my friend. " He turned his attention to Rachel. " I do have an order for you Rachel. You are NOT to refer to me by rank this evening or while we're at dinner. The next time you will be allowed to refer to my rank will be tomorrow morning when you report for shift duty, Until then we're just two friends out having dinner, Is that understood? " I say with a grin. " Good, then let's go, I'm hungry. "
