Mission: Episode 15 - The Evil That Lies Beneath
Location: Stellar Cartography - Deck 6 - USS Pioneer
Timeline: MD005 1100 hrs

As Narin stepped into the Stellar Cartography lab on Deck 6, he searched the room for Lieutenant Selina Kyle, the Stellar Cartography officer. Excitement pulsed through him at the prospect of meeting Selina, a Caitian Human hybrid, as he hadn't yet had the chance to collaborate with someone of her unique background.

Narin heard some humming coming from around the corner and saw Salina closing a panel. She tossed two isoliner chip and a circuit breaker into a pouch. " Done and done. " She said to no one in particular. Take those down to engineering and swap them out for good ones and I'll be done. " She licked the back of her hand and started to preen her face. " Oh.. Umm.. Hello? " She hesitated a moment. " I was unaware that I had company, How may I help you ? " She asked being somewhat curious, as she rarely had visitors here.

Narin smiled warmly as he approached. "Hello, Lieutenant Kyle. I'm Narin Valen, the new Assistant Chief Science Officer. I wanted to introduce myself and see if there's anything I can do to assist you."

I've currently got the computer running a full spectrum scan on a class four comet, no surprises so far and the lateral sensors are working wonderfully. The only pressing matter I have is that I was going to walk down to engineering and swap out these used parts for new spares to have on hand. I think we can trust the computer to do it's job for the next ten to fifteen minutes on it's own. Care to join me for a brief walk? " She asked Narin.

Narin nodded. "Sure, I'll join you," he said, stepping to the side to allow her to lead the way. "I haven't had a chance to check out engineering yet, and it will be a great opportunity to get to know you better."

Salina gave a warm smile. " Well I'm going to be here for awhile so I might as well get to know as many people her on the ship as I can. " They stepped into the turbolift. " Main engineering please. " She said as they zipped along to they're destination and came to the desired floor. " So what would you like to know about me? " She asked. " But be warned, for every question you ask, I get to ask one in return. " She said with a melodic laugh.

"Absolutely, it's always good to forge connections with your fellow crew members," Narin responded with a smile, appreciating Salina's friendly demeanor. As they rode the turbolift to Main Engineering, he considered her proposal.” Fair enough,” he replied. “How about we start with something simple? What inspired you to pursue becoming a stellar cartographer?”

Selina stopped at a nearby porthole window and wistfully looked at the stars. " I guess you could blame it on my upbringing, Even at a young age I have been drawn towards the stars, I've always wanted to follow the ships and see where the stars take me, So far they have shown me great beauty and wonders. Call it the dreams of a young girls heart. " She gave a soft chuckle. " My dad always said I had a gypsy heart.

" My turn." Selina said. " What made you want to join Starfleet and live this kind of life? " She asked with a look of curiosity upon her face.

Narin joined Selina by the porthole, gazing out at the stars alongside her. "It sounds like you've had quite the adventurous spirit from a young age," he remarked, nodding in understanding. "As for me, well, I've always had a passion for science. Got it from my father. He was a scientist when I lived on Betazoid.” He paused. “However, the Dominion War changed everything. My sister and I ended up on Elysium Prime. A predominantly agricultural world.” Narin looked over at Selina. “Farming wasn't quite my forte. We left for Starfleet Academy as soon as we could. I followed my passion in science, and my sister, Liora, became an Intelligence officer.”

Selina looked at Narin and shook her head in a negative fashion. " Nope, I just can't see you as a farmer. But I wouldn't mind seeing a real farm one of these days. Heck, Earth was the first planet I ever lived on and I was eighteen and going to the academy, I grew up on a starbase and starships. And I also have a love for science and want to learn everything that I can. " She said with excitement in her voice.

Narin chuckled. "Farming definitely wasn’t my calling; however, it is a science in its own way. There's a delicate balance that needs to be maintained to get the best yield from your crops. Testing the soil, ensuring it has all the necessary nutrients—there’s a lot of experimentation involved." He paused, reflecting on his life on Elysium Prime. “There is something peaceful about living on a farm. I do miss that sometimes.”

"There is an area that has been created for a bit of green, an escape to where you can plant something here on this ship. Commander Maren put it together with others converting a cargo space for things to grow. It is amazing. I'm sure you can find a spot to plant something. I plan on it. " her ears perking up, as she smiled, "For now though time for me to get back to work, and thank you."
