Mission:
Episode 15 - The Evil That Lies Beneath
Location: USS Pioneer - Bubble Universe
Timeline: MD007 0900 hrs
As the two went down to Astrometrics, Alyssa became aware of others on the ship. "We're not alone anymore," she said. "I'm picking up other people."
Vura, Thex, and Hermia were rushing towards the bridge. Something tingled at the back of Vura's head. "I feel like there are others coming. Don't ask me why I feel that."
"I feel it too." Hermia said. "I feel a familiar mind. Alyssa is here."
"Hermia?" Alyssa asked telepathically. She looked at Neil. "I recognize Hermia and Vura and...Thex?" She closed her eyes for a moment. "Yes."
Concentrating hard Hermia sent out a message. "Alyssa I'm on my way to the Bridge with Vura and Thex. We're hoping to find some answers there. Where are you?"
"Alyssa is here?" Vura asked astonished. "Are there any chiefs left back on Pioneer? Where's the Captain? Elen?"
"Yes and so is the XO, I don't know where the Captain or Elen are, but I don't sense them." Hermia replied.
"We're leaving the bridge to go to Astrometrics," Alyssa told Hermia telepathically.
"Understood, we'll meet you in Astrometrics." Hermia replied.
"Hermia and Vura will join us here shortly," Alyssa relayed to Neil.
Neil glanced about the lab. He wasn't a scientist and had workmanship knowledge of Engineering.
Truth be told, he was better at breaking things than fixing them, but you play the hand you're dealt.
"Not surprising whatever, or rather, whoever is playing games is starting to group people," Neil reasoned out. He kept the fact that the telepaths were obviously in contact and that it made his teeth itch to himself. "It also may indicate limits on their capabilities that we can exploit."
"That's a good point," Alyssa said. "It seems like whatever is controlling Rowena is going after department heads." She went over to a console and pulled up the long-range sensor logs and the data input from the last relay station. She checked and then double-checked the data. "Neil, according to this, the Pioneer was in the nebula, then it was here. There was no traveling from one to the other." She turned to give him her full attention. "What's odd is there's nothing coming in at all right now."
Neil mused for a moment then said, "Department heads and no Captain. The Commodore was acting off, so I think it's fine assume that whatever is doing this, is fiddling with him. Tactically, that makes sense. Removing senior leadership will cause confusion. I think we're somewhere where it doesn't matter if we know something is going on. A secure Black Site. There's enough information to keep us running on that hamster wheel but get nowhere. The question is, how do we effect our cage?"
"I don't know yet, but there has to be something here. The increased number of tachyon particles, and a notable amount of chroniton particles indicate we moved. That I'm not getting any readings from the long-range sensors and relay buoys tells me we're not in Federation space." She shook her head. "We may not even be in our own universe. That theory still needs to be proved, but the evidence is there. How to get back is another matter."
Vura's group came into view. The Deltan gave a concerned smile at everyone, her eyes lingering on Major Tremble slightly longer than anyone else. "It is good to see you all, but the circumstances are less than enjoyable." She paused and then put a hand on her hip, simultaneously pushing it inwards. "Have any of you put together anything about this place?"
Alyssa was running another analysis using the computer in Astrometrics. She turned when she saw Vura. "Yes. Sensors on the bridge are registering elevated levels of tachyon and chroniton particles. Long range sensors aren't picking up anything. The ship isn't getting any data from the relay buoys, either. From what I see, we went from the nebula to...nowhere."
"I'm a bit rusty when it comes to particle physics, but don't elevated tachyon and chroniton particles point to some form of Transporter tech?" Hermia asked.
"Tachyon particles, yes. They can also point to temporal anomalies and time travel. Or cloaked ships. Chroniton particles are more particularly connected to temporal physics. But you don't generally find transporter signals when you're scanning space. So, it's logical to assume these are either a sign of a cloaked ship, a temporal anomaly, or a spacetime distortion. And, with the other data I've collected, they more closely align with a temporal anomaly, fluctuation, or shift." With what she'd learned from the bridge and Astrometrics, she was fairly certain the ship had moved or been moved...somewhere. "Have you checked sickbay to see if there are any irregularities there?"
Ja'sol had been listening to all the theories that had been put out for discussion. " We're also unable to detect any federation communication buoys or navigational beacons at this time. It's like we've been dumped into a vast nothingness somehow. I tend to agree that we're stuck in a spacetime distortion or a temporal anomaly, any ideas as of how we get out? " He asked. We need to figure out the conditions of how we arrived here and maybe replicate them to get out. "
"All of this is over my head," Vura concluded. "I just like the idea of figuring a way out and if Ja'sol's answer works, then I'm all for it. Then again, I would be all for anything that would work."
"I know who, but I don't know how," Alyssa said. "For me, it was Rowena. Or, whatever is possessing her. I made a comment about possession and ended up here."
"I was performing a medical examination on Rowena. When I was in the real Sickbay I had a medical tricorder, but it was gone when I arrived here." Hermia said.
"It was definitely Rowena. She knew that I had some suspicions about her and I had sent her to Hermia for a more complete investigation. I'm guessing that was never done," Vura told the group.
Alyssa nodded. "And what is this about the captain? I haven't been around him recently."
"I was talking to her down in operations," Thex added. " She said security was looking for the doctor and that misery loved company and left. I was then wherever here is."
Neil was silent as the others commented and nodded. "It's Rowena. She's been point in all of our stories. For me, she found me in the Morgue when I was setting up a keyhole communication with the Brigadier. Right now, we have to decide how best to interact and shake the trees as it were. The sooner we start the sooner we get back home. Ideas?"
"First, we need to determine where we are," Alyssa said. This was science, and focusing on what she knew would help her stay calm. "We're somewhere like a bubble universe or possibly a parallel universe. If we can determine the parameters, it will give us the data we need to start calculating how to get out. If this is a small space, it increases our chances of success. Since I'm not getting much from the sensors, I'm leaning towards a pocket or bubble universe, but I want to run some more scans first." She went over to the main console and ran an internal scan of the astrometrics system.
