Mission: Episode 15 - The Evil That Lies Beneath
Location: Bridge/Ready Room - Deck 1- USS Pioneer
Timeline: MD008 0620 hrs

Captain Mazumdar found the Pioneer. It was just floating in place, but it's shields and hull were intact. She sighed. According to the reports this was how the extraction team found the USS Malificus as well. She just hoped she wasn't too late. She opened op her main screen viewer. "USS Pioneer, this is Captain Mazumdar. Please respond!"

Lachlan had been working hard to strengthen his position in command. This included removing, or temporarily pausing, the access and authority of Commander McGowen. The reports of her behaviour had been similar to that of Tyler and he thought it a wise precaution to do so just in case she took action against the Pioneer like Tyler had done.

Looking over at the Ops console he nodded and the viewscreen flashed to reveal Captain Mazumdar. "Captain, I am Sergeant Major Lachlan Barr, we spoke earlier. I am in command of the Pioneer. If you would like to beam over I can have Captain Merrick meet you in our transporter room and you can both come to the ready room for us to talk about our situation."

"I'll be right over," Mazumdar replied.

Merrick had just stepped out of the turbo-lift just in time to see and hear the exchange between Mazumdar and Lachlan. He was reporting in to take his turn at the security/tactical station, but it looked like he will be going back into the turbo-lift. With a slightly amused smile, he stated to Lachlan, "I'll be there right away transporter room 1." the door closing and the turbo lift heading down to Deck Four. Merrick stepped inside the transporter room and gave a nod to the transporter chief, and awaited Mazumdar's arrival. When she arrived he gave her a nod. "Good to see you Captain Mazumdar, if you will follow me, we will meet with Sergeant Major Lachlan Barr."

Once at the ready room, Edmund stepped inside. "Hello Sergeant Major, we have arrived" the Marine XO stating the obvious with a slight smirk. "Not that I need to truly introduce her, but this is Captain Mazumdar."

Mazumdar walked up to Lachlan. "It is a pleasure to meet you, Sergeant Major, even if the circumstances are not that ideal. I assume you have detained Commodore Malbrooke and Commander McGowen. Who is in charge of your medical department now? I assume most of your senior staff have been taken out by now. "

"Pleasure is mine Captain." Lachlan responded to Mazumdar. "Yes Commodore Malbrook and Commander McGowen have been detained and at present under sedation in sickbay under Lieutenant Spencer our ACMO. As to the senior staff they too have been disappearing with the science and security departments working hard to try and find out what 'exactly' has happened to them and get them back."

"Hopefully something can be found to solve this predicament we are in. I am truly finding this rather disturbing, and would like to get them back to somewhat of their own selves. They won't be the same though, as I feel that an experience like this will have quite a bit of effect on them." Edmund commented.

"Well hopefully that's where you come in." Lachlan gestured to Mazumdar. "I would assume you've not came all this way to tell us we're up shit creek without a paddle."

Mazumdar looked to Lachlan. She sighed and said, "No, Sergeant Major, I didn't come all this way to tell you that. I am here to give you the tools you need to stir these dirty waters as you like to describe it. But I can't take the wheel, you have to do this."

"As in, we need to get to Medical and get things started? The sooner these entities are out of our people the better." Merrick remarked, his concern for Rowena as well as Tyler and those who were missing leaking out in a sharp tone. He paused drawing in a breath, "I am sorry Captain Mazumdar and Sergeant Major Barr, for my rudeness." an apologetic smile surfacing which faded away.

"You're fine, sir." Lachlan acknowledged Merrick.

"First I want to know exactly what these things are and how we are going to get them out of our people without harming them." Lachlan kept his eyes on Mazumdar. "Given that you are the expert it would make more sense for you to do this and one of us to assist if needed. Telling us what to do, letting us lead when we are not matter experts, could lead to complications I want to avoid."

"Perhaps this can be talked more in Medical, here Tyler and Rowena are at. If you'll excuse me I'm headed there right now." with that Edmund turned towards the door, looking back at Lachlan. "Its a good time as any for us to do so?" he gave a cocky smile and left the ready room.

Lachlan watched Edmund leave. He shook his head and looked back at Captain Mazumdar. "We can join the rest of them in sickbay once you tell me what these things are and what the process is for their removal in its simplest terms?" Once those were explained and he had a firm understanding of that they would part ways before meeting up in sickbay.

Mazumdar nodded. "What I learned is they are creatures from another dimension. There are points in our universe they are able to come trough to our world. We have mistakenly named them "ghosts". And yes they are non corporeal and they seem to be able to possess corporeal beings. So us. The stronger they are the more abilities they seem to develop. They feed off emotions. Each being has an emotion they off of. It seems the one that is possessing Rowena is a higher ranking being and the one that is possessing Malbrooke might be a lower ranking being the higher ranking being brought here. Most emotions they feed off from are negative. Depression, paranoia, anger, chaos. We found that they can be expelled using their positive counter. Or rather the positive hormone that comes from that positive emotion. So maybe that could help you. And then you also need to find the senior staff quickly as well. The longer they stay there, the stronger Malificus get. The harder it gets to get them back."

"Okay." Lachlan arched an eyebrow. This all sounded very much too supernatural for his brain. He shook his head at the thought of ghosts, or even wraiths as this is what it sounded like. The play on emotions, possession for lack of a better term. He just wanted these things out of his people so things could go back to normal. "Head down to sickbay if you would captain, Malbrooke and McGowen are sedated down there. I need to make a quick log of this and I'll join shortly."

There was a nod from the captain as she left. Now Lachlan was alone with his thoughts. He blew out his cheeks and laughed in disbelief. "How the hell do I log this...?!"
