Mission: Episode 16 - Silent Cries
Location: The Quarters of Alyssa Maren - Deck 2 - USS Pioneer
Timeline: MD004 0100 hrs

Jek'Lar son of Koss strode into the office of Alyssa Maren aboard the USS Pioneer. When he entered the office he was accompanied by a being who wore what resembled a black suit from Earth circa the 1950s. This being had a large bulbous head and exceptionally long arms. They moved slowly, methodically and with purpose. "Commander Maren, this person arrived on Empok Nor and demanded to speak with you."

Alyssa hadn't expected a visit from Jek'Lar, nor did she recognize the being that accompanied him. She stood and walked around her desk, looking from one to the other. That someone would go to Empok Nor and demand to speak with her was definitely unusual and she was curious. "Thank you, Commander. Would the two of you like to sit down and tell me what I can do for you?" Whatever the reason, she was glad Jek'Lar brought him here rather than just telling him how to find her.

The lanky being looked at Jek'Lar for quite the long moment and uncharacteristically the Klingon left without any word. This being then turned to Alyssa and advanced toward her slowly. Its long arms swaying as it walked, its large bulbous head cocked to one side as if it were curious about what it looked at. Suddenly and without warning, as if someone simply opened a door in her head Alyssa heard something speak telepathically with a raspy voice, a voice that was haggard as if it had not been used in ages. "You are the Pioneer... We are the Silence..."

She had no idea why Jek'Lar left without a word, but when the visitor walked toward her, all her attention was on it. She wasn't sure if it was a him, her, them, or it. It really didn't matter once they began to speak. "What does the Silence need of the Pioneer?" Over the years, she'd taken a number of refresher courses on first contact protocol, so her response came naturally. Still, she had a feeling the Silence knew the ship and its crew and sought them out deliberately.

The more she looked at the visitor, the more she was reminded of her recent dreams and pieces began to fall into place. Or she thought they did.

"You are the Pioneer and we are The Silence..." The being spoke without a mouth. It projected the words into her head. "You will remember, you must remember. We are The Silence...." Its head tilted almost as if it questioned if Alyssa was real. Despite the monotone sound of its voice, the being seemed to be in a rush. As if there was an emergency and time was of the essence.

"I am Alyssa of Pioneer. I will remember." she thought back. This being definitely knew the Pioneer and its crew, but she knew nothing of the Silence. Had the ship encountered them before? "Where do you need us to be?" In her mind, she pulled up maps of the area around the ship, hoping the Silence would lead her to the right place because she wasn't sure any of the crew would know where to go.

"Our world, our beloved Silence is noisy and disorganized. We are dying... It is killing us... We cannot make it forget. It refuses to forget." The being leaned in as if it was about to say something extremely important. "The one you call Vaebn he remembers. We release him from his oath. Remember and bring order to the chaos. Restore Silence..."

A chill ran through her. She could feel the desperate need for help, but she wasn't sure she could do as the Silence asked. "Vaebn is no longer on the Pioneer. I am here in his place. Is there another? I will bring the Pioneer to the Silence. I will help. I need to know where to go."

The entity tilted its head in the other direction, as if it tried to process what Alyssa said. "You are the Pioneer; you are released from your oath. "They are killing us. They are not of Silence, not of Pioneer, not of here."

Alyssa would remember this. The entity--the Silence--said she would. Surely there would be someone else she could work with who had such a dream. Maybe there would be something in the ship's records that would give her a clue. If nothing else, she could look for where the Pioneer had been while Vaebn had been aboard. It would give her a place to begin. "Thank you for releasing us from the oath." She only had a vague idea what it meant, but she knew it would be important. "Pioneer will come. We will help you."

There seemed to be a distortion of everything around Alyssa, almost as if a video was rewinding to repeat. The Silence was suddenly back at the door and Jek'Lar seemed to be leaving the office all over again. "You are the Pioneer, we are The Silence." Anything beyond this being seemed to disappear. As if a blackness had begun to overtake the station beyond. "You are the Pioneer, we are The Silence." When these words were repeated for the second time Alyssa could feel all of the pain, the worry, the anxiety, all of the emotions that came with genocide overload her empathic abilities.

Alyssa's body began to tremble. She grabbed her desk to keep from falling--and to hold on to something substantial. She wanted Jek'Lar here, but he was gone. Everything was gone but the Silence...and the breathtaking emotions and pain. They washed over her in waves until she felt like she was drowning in them. "The Pioneer will help the Silence," she gasped out, feeling her consciousness slipping away.

The deep set dark eyes of that which called itself The Silence bored into Alyssa. It realized how to get through, she could feel. She would remember. "They are killing us... The Silence Falls!" The scene dissolved and all that was left was Alyssa in an empty space, a void, as she cowered in pain. She felt nothing but death and pain.

At some point she woke up. How did she get here? The last thing she remembered was Jek'Lar walking into her office with... And then she saw the Silence as everything flooded back into her head. She remembered both visits, she remembered the pain. And she remembered the promise. "I have to talk to someone." But who would believe her? She shook her head, then paused as it began to throb. She had to find someone.
