Mission:
Episode 16 - Silent Cries
Location: Tuscan Cafe - Lower Promenade - Empok Nor
Timeline: MD002 1700 hrs
Before Edmund had left the gym with Azure, Audie and Buster, he sent out a call.
=^= Sergeant Moreau and Staff Sergeant Kunadt this is Captain Merrick, your presence is requested on Empok Nor. Come in Civvies if you want and I'm buying coffee or tea=^= Edmund giving the location on where to meet, tapping on the combadge to close communication.
He turned to Audie, and Azure. "This is one way for me to get an update also as to Shayla and Moreau. C'mon lets go meet them." leading the way. He looked at Buster, "And don't worry you'll get your tuna." Edmund giving a laugh.
Adelaide had been doing laps of the ship. She loved cardio and if you thought staying a slim as she did came naturally you'd be sadly mistaken. A call from Captain Merrick made her stop for breath. After a quick shower and change of clothes she made her way to the station.
"I think you have a friend for life!" Audie chuckled as she scooped Buster up, carrying him along until he protested to be let down. "It's great to meet the other Marines a few at a time, so I don't get them all muddled together...and free coffee! What's to complain about?"
"That's just Skip's raw animal magnetism, just ask Doc O'Rourke and Commander McGowen." Azure said giving Edmund a wink.
Edmund shook his head at Azure's comment wondering just what sort of scuttlebutt was going on about him and Rowena.
Shayla was in the shuttle bay with Xeres. She tried to tweak the controls of the Hawkeye. Shayla thought they were sluggish and there was a 1.27 second delay from putting in commands into the helm and the ship responding. "You know X in battle those seconds will mean everything. Got any ideas?" She called out from under the navigational console. "Shayla, perhaps if we..." His statement was cut short as Captain Merrick's voice could be heard over the comm.
Shayla slid out from under the console and wiped sweat from her brow. "Gorram it! I am sure this coffee clutch can wait. I have to get this ship up to specs." She cursed as she wiped some sweat from her head. "You know he is in overall command of your unit, or at least that is the rumor around the ship." Xeres replied in that sort of know it all way that Bolians had. Shayla nodded "Listen, can you keep looking for a way and we will compare notes in a few hours." She said as she jogged out of the shuttle bay. She decided that clean up would have to wait and made her way to the promenade on Empok Nor to find Captain Merrick.
When Adelaide and Shayla arrived, Merrick simply said "Thank you for coming, lets go inside and talk. I'm buying." Leading the way to a table set up for them. "Anyone want something with your coffee or tea? " he asked, before ordering some tuna for Buster. "and please take a seat." taking a seat himself.
"I'm good with a latte," Audie commented as she took a seat a few spaces from Edmund. While this was an informal meeting, she wasn't sure if there was still some sort of hierarchy, and she didn't want to inadvertently step on anyone's toes.
"An ice coffee and a tullaberry tart for me." Azure said.
Shayla took a quick look around at those that were assembled and thought that if this was to be some sort of briefing or meeting it was a strange way of holding it. "I will have a coffee, black and double strong." She ordered and took a seat at the table indicated. At the moment short of the order she did not plan on saying much more. It wasn't that Shayla did not socialize. Quite the opposite, she loved to be around people. It was just this was not the kind of setting that she preferred. So, she would wait it out and see what was on the horizon.
Adelaide wasn't wearing anything spectacular. Simply tank top and marine fatigues on her lower half. She was never dressed in a manner many expected. Turning a chair around so she could rest her arms over the top of her she looked at the others who had ordered before opening her own mouth. "I'll have a tea." she said but knew when a server would come up she'd ask for a little extra in it. After all, it was always happy hour somewhere and the captain was buying!
The server arrived, once all had sat down, Edmund first asked for Scottish Breakfast tea along with a scone with raspberry jam and some cream. He also ordered some tuna for Buster. Knowing mostly what the others wanted, (He didnt' know that Moreau wished more to be added to her tea) he gave the order to the server.
Azure approached Kunadt and said. "Hey, Staff, you look bored. I have a pack of cards, if you'd like to play?"
Edmund took a good look at the demeanor of those who had arrived. Each of them had their own expressions, from the condition of Shayla's clothing, the trace and evidence of her having been working on something, to a still slight glisten to Moreau's skin. It seemed that he had called them from something that they had been involved in. Nonetheless, he would continue.
One the server had gotten the orders and turned away, Edmund placed his hands on the top of the table, "Kunadt, Moreau, thank you for coming to the station. I won't keep you too long, but I wanted to have you meet a new addition to the Cure, this is Sergeant Audie Fitch. She's been transferred from Poseidon Station and is a Corpsman, she'll be working with you. Anything else, its up to Fitch to let you in on that." Edmund giving a chuckle.
The waitress returned in a timely fashion, quietly placing the orders upon the table then left as quietly as she had come.
"That's about as simple as it is!" Grinning, Audie nodded to the others, then took a sip of her latte. "Oh, and there's that cat there." She nodded to the one-eyed orange cat happily lapping at his tuna juice. "That's Buster, and he's the one who's really in charge!"
Shayla turned to address Azure first. "Hey thanks but if I am honest at the moment my head is not in it. Got a lot on my mind at the moment." After Edmund made the introductions Shayla smiled at Fitch. "Welcome to The Cure. I am Shayla Kunadt and when we go out there to do what we do best I am your chauffeur. Corpman eh... Just patch em up so we can get back to it eh." She laughed at her own joke. "Seriously though. Welcome aboard. I have heard great things about that Kingsmen unit. You must have seen some interesting things."
"I understand." Azure said.
Edmund picked up his scone after spreading some jam and cream upon it, listening as he started eating his food. Taking sip of his tea as well.
"Did they see paranormal ghost mind controllers though?" Adelaide joked already so soon after their last mission. She found it hard to be serious at time and often just through statements, questions, whatever, into a conversation like a grenade and watched it go off.
Edmund shot a glance towards Moreau, his eyes flicking towards Audie to see what her answer was. He quietly took a sip of his tea, sort of hiding a smile.
"Kingsmen are family," Audie declared, "although a bit dysfunctional!" She laughed. "But I suspect this is going to be another branch of family here, and I'm looking forward to figuring out which one of you is going to be the 'crazy uncle'!" As for 'interesting things', she wouldn't talk about the Mirror Universe.
"Don't know much about crazy uncles. But, Flarn is definitely the grumpy uncle. I wonder if Tellarites are even capable of smiling." Shayla said with a laugh. She sipped her coffee and her eyes closed as she murmured. "Sweet nectar of the gods."
"I don't know if Tellarites smile, but arguing makes them happy." Azure said. "I knew a Tellarite on the Rochester, we had some great arguments over a bottle of Tarak, a Tellarite whiskey."
"They growl and show teeth a lot. Maybe that's their version of a smile but I look arguing with Flarn, especially when you see his nostrils flare." Adelaide laughed. "He's so funny." she said calming down.
Edmund set his cup down and then spoke. "I called you all here besides treating you to coffee but to meet our newest medical person of The Cure as well. Also letting you know there will be some practice scenarios with some of the Marines, as well as getting you familiar with how each other works. I will include Commander O'Rourke in those scenarios and several others who are Star Fleet."
Shayla simply nodded as she sipped and savoured her coffee. This news was not new to her. It was something that she had expected and had worked toward by integrating herself into the Flight department. However, it did not help things that the department did not have a Chief at the moment.
While training could be a chore, it was necessary, especially when there were new additions to a team, and Audie suspected that it would actually be entertaining and exciting with this crew!
"So long as you keep the coffee coming," she quipped, "training sounds good! Better than running laps and doing jumping jacks!"
To Audie, Azure said. "You're going love Doc O'Rourke, she's a Marine in all but uniform."
"Those can be a bit fun, does anyone have questions or concerns they would like to address?" There are questions Edmund had himself, for Shayla, that though will have to wait. This wasn't a time and place for it to happen.
Shayla took a sip of her coffee and some of the pent up frustration bubbled over. "You know top I have one question. When are we going to get out there and do something? I mean we have been helping and pulling weight on the Pioneer and that is just grand. But when are we going to get out there and break some heads?"
Edmund couldn't fault Shayla wanting to get into some action. The last time they actually had boots on the ground was when the Cure along with Security went after those who had been captured. Shayla being one of them.
"I can't predict when that will happen, Shayla, but look where we are at" Edmund taking a look at those who were at the table with him. "rest assured there will end up being some action happening. You never know when the call will come but we'll be ready, like we normally are. Isn't that right? We are the Cure, and we will never forget that." Edmunds voice having the ring of pride in it.
"As the Earth philosopher Petty, once said. "The waiting is the hardest part." Azure interjected.
Shayla looked toward Azure. "I am partial to the adage that speaks of idle hands. Marines just do not handle peace time too well, although that is what we all want."
"And on that note, I've got to get going." Edmund pushed back from the table rising to his feet, " With my becoming the Company Commanding Officer, I've got paperwork to do. And as a certain Colonel Tremble had said, no rest for the wicked." flashing a crooked smile, "Marines enjoy your shoreleave while you can, and Buster enjoy your tuna." walking over and scritching the ginger cat just under his jaw, then left whistling a bit of a nameless tune.
Shayla watched as Edmund left. She was of mixed feelings, on the one hand she was happy as she could finish her coffee and get back to work. On the other hand she was a little puzzled. "Yes, welcome to The Cure Magic Hands." She raised her cup in toast and took a sip as she decided to spend some time with her extended family.
"Got a hot date, Skipper?" Azure asked.
"Thanks!" Audie watched as Edmund walked away, then raised her mug as well. "It's an honor to be part of your Cure, and Buster feels the same!"
Edmund turned to give a smile towards those who were still at the table, "You're welcome, and Azure, yes A hot date with my padds." giving a laugh then resumed his walk through the crowded promenade disappearing from view.
