Mission:
Episode 16 - Silent Cries
Location: Office of the Chief Medical Officer - Promenade Lower Level - Empok Nor
Timeline: MD003 0800 hrs
The visit from Audie and Zek, had reminded her of Hermia. She did wonder how she was doing. She sent a call to Hermia over the computer.
"Doctor O'Rourke, its Doctor Abernathy. Care to have a visit?"
"Sure, Doc, on my way." Hermia said wondering what this was about.
It didn't take her long to reach Empok Nor's Infirmary. She greeted some of the staff and headed to Abernathy's office, and pressed the chime.
"Come in!" Angela sang out, when the door opened revealing Hermia, there was a warm smile of greeting. "good to see you in person. How are things on the Pioneer? How is Flarn doing and the same for Tremble? May I offer you some tea as well?" looking up at the face of the statuesque Hermia.
"Yes, you too." Hermia said. "Flarn is same gruff self and Tremble is now a Lt. Colonel and first officer of the Pioneer. I'm CMO, and I have my daughter, Helena back. Also tea would be great."
Angela led the way to the break room to where there was already hot water available and a selection of teas. "What would you like, and Tremble is a colonel now? And the XO? That is amazing. And congratulations on becoming Chief Medical officer and you have your daughter back?! Makes my heart leap with gladness" Angela's smile lighting up her face.
"Do you have Peppermint tea?" Hermia asked. "Yes, it has been a while." She smiled. "I hear my mother, Titania has been lending a hand in Infirmary."
"Oh yes she has been a great deal of help. I've been so busy though that I've not gotten with her for luncheon." Angela getting out the peppermint tea, one for Hermia and one for herself. Bringing out the tea mugs, and setting the tea bags inside in each of them. "I wonder if she has met the new chief counselor as of yet. I barely met him on the fly, he brought in a woman by the name of Audie." pouring the hot water.
"I don't, but this Audie is probably Sergeant Fitch, a Marine Corpsman on the Pioneer." Hermia said. "My mother has a knack for getting herself involved in things."
"She has been needed greatly, been keeping me sane with her help." Drawing in a breath, "And she can reach places that I can't reach unless I use a step stool." Angela giving a chuckle.
"Maybe you could get them to redesign this place to suit you better, or hire a tall person to retrieve things from high places for you." Hermia said. "Speaking of Audie, her and the other Corpsman, Azure, are quite knowledgeable, well trained, and experienced, I find them a asset to my medical team."
"Well, the examination tables do rise or lower for who is working on a patient. Kinda nice don't you think?" smiling. "Ah Audie is medical, now that I think of it, there was a sense of her knowing what I was talking about." a brief pause as Angela thought over what Hermia had said. "Quite glad that you have others who will use their talents to help you out."
"Indeed, but you have my mother helping out." Hermia said.
"I most certainly do have her help. I wasn't complaining as I do have a few good helpers for taking care of those here. I am quite glad that you have good help as well. What is the latest on your life? Any strange encounters? Any discoveries that you have found?" with her not being out on a ship, Angela was interested in what other ships doctors have come across.
"Where to start?" Hermia said. "I kissed a Deltan and almost died. We were attacked by an entity we'd previously encountered, that possessed the Second Officer, took control of the CO, and banished all other Senior Officers, including myself to a pocket universe to keep us out of the way. My father has been given a promotion and will be taking the Pioneer to his new command. Oh and my twin brother Edward has been assigned to the ship's Marine detachment."
At each part of the tale that Hermia related, Angela's eyes widened even more. At the end of her news, her mouth was rounded in an 'O', for a moment not finding any words to say. "Good heavens Hermia, you certainly have had an assortment of adventures in one form or other. Are you feeling alright now? I assume that you had medical help after kissing a Deltan. My oh My." Shaking her head. "I am glad you are still amongst the land of the living."
"Yeah, that wasn't my best decision, but with the help of a concoction I put together and ingested, and the timely treatment of the EMH, I came out of it without any neurological damage."
"Can I get the concoction you came up with, it seems like something that could be used just in case, something like that happens here on the station. " Andrea having covered her mouth at what else Hermia revealed. "Pretty please?"
"Sure, I can give you the recipe, but you'll have to alter it to match the patient's brain chemistry." Hermia said. "As is it won't work on a full human or a full Betazoid." She warned.
"I will keep that in mind, thank you." Angela remarked with a smile. She blew puff of air to try to get a wisp of hair from her face, it not budging, with a huff Angela brushed back the annoying strand. "Now back to our discussion. How long will you be on the station for your shoreleave?"
"At least a couple of weeks, but only the CO knows for sure." Hermia said.
Angela gave a nod. "I am curious about something. If a Deltan is needing CPR and maybe mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. And there is no specialized equipment, what would you do if the physical form is needed? I do know that we have med kits but, what happens if that allowance isn't being made medkit wise?"
Hermia's brow farrowed. "That hasn't come up yet, but with 2 onboard, I should really look into it." Hermia said. "Our Chief Counselor is a Deltan, I'll have to discuss it with her, we are friends and I'm hoping that exposure to her pheromones will help me to build up a resistance to their effects."
"Like partaking of a poison to bring up immunity against it? Sounds interesting. Please keep me updated on that. I would like to know if that is possible. " Angela very interested.
"I'll keep you informed." Hermia said. "I have a patient who possesses two intelligences in one body, similar to the Vulcan katra possessing another body." She said. "Only she is, or they are Deltans. My patient is not suffering any mental illnesses, though my psionic powers aren't great, I can sense two separate entities. The second entity is said to be the patient's older sister, who sacrificed herself to save my patient's life when they were both trapped in a cave after the cave roof caved in." She explained. "I wondering, if you had any insights?"
"Well that is an interesting case, and I am glad that she isn't suffering from any ill effects. What are their, feelings about the situation, does the sister want to move on or is she wanting to live on? Would it be ethical if her consciousness is transferred to-something to where something could be made a way for her to lead a separate life? Maybe someone like what the doctor from Voyager? I know that seems rather out there."
"There's a lot to take into account, and none knows if its even plausible." Hermia said. "Deltans are still quite hush hush about such things. I just thought I'd check if you had any insight."
"I wish I did, however when the Pioneer gets back from whatever mission you might be on next. I would like to meet them and we can talk. I know you have checked the vitals but I've not met anyone who has had the katra of someone in their mind before." Angela giving a nod towards Hermia.
"If they are amicable to it, of course." Hermia said. "I'll ask them, and let you know, if they agree." "It is an interesting case."
"Okay and thank you. I wish I had any other observations or view point on the matter. Keep me posted on the matter. I does my heart good that you came to see me."
Over the intercom came, "Doctor, sorry to interrupt you, but will you come get Linda, she is saying her stomach hurts."
"I will be right there." Angela Turned to Hermia, "Looks like I need to run. You take care, and be safe."
"You too." Hermia said. "Its okay, I have a child too."
"Thank you!" Angela called over her shoulder as she disappeared from Sickbay
