Last Time On The Point of The Matter Part I

"A good deal happened since then," she replied, taking another throw before responding. "They worked things out and she arranged to get a temporary reassignment to the station." She glanced at Edmund and continued. "She spent that time with him. She is also quite aware he's here."

"Okay, I will make certain to not have a stern talking to him then. " Edmund shook his head chuckling, but had a tinge of disappointment. "Dang it, I thought I could put him in his place. Oh well, he better make certain he treats Kaylara right. As I think that there are few who wouldn't mind setting him straight if he treated her ill. Though I am certain that she can handle things herself as well."

And Now The Conclusion...

"Oh, I'm sure she can as well." Jayna grinned at Edmund. "She is half Romulan, after all. It will be interesting to see how he settles in with the department after being on a station." She threw her next knife, this time making it in the center. She needed to practice more. "How do you feel about moving up yourself?"

"In truth, I wasn't expecting that happening. And maybe I am in a little bit of shock as well." Edmund chuckling. He aimed the next knife, this time concentrating on his throw, it sailing flashing through the air and hitting the ring just outside of the center. "And I too am interested in seeing how he settles in. Hopefully he will be successful."

"Well, he'll be working with an interesting group of analysts. At least it's seldom boring." Although it could be lonely, it wasn't often boring. Not even on gamma shift. Jayna collected her knives and threw again. She still hit the center area, but a little to the left. In her line of work, she couldn't afford to miss when she was in the field. At least now she had a place to practice regularly. Along with rope climbing, gymnastics, and hand-to-hand. She couldn't help smiling. Some days she felt she trained more often than she slept.

"Sounds like they will be keeping Stefan rather busy." Edmund relaxing. He turned his attention back to the target. concentrating and hit dead center of the target. He tried the last one of his knives before he went to retrieve his others. It hit just outside of the center barely. He trotted over pulling those that sunk into the target then the one that hit the floor. Playfully he shook his finger towards the knives, "C'mon now, I know you are more capable of hitting the target." looking towards giving a grin. "At times need to give encouragement to the tools you use."

"I don't know about encouragement, but they mine like to be coddled and cared for." She lined up again and this time hit the center of the target. Then she threw two more to land near the first. "I definitely need to practice more. I haven't needed my knives as much here and it shows."

She retrieved her knives and looked at Edmund. "Do you have much need of a throwing axe?"

"It’s useful to have, especially when I go out camping. I hadn't thought to take it when we gear up. Knives are more easily hidden. Still though I like keeping my skill honed especially when there is an axe throwing contest." Edmund went back to the table, placing the knives there. "Care to try?"

"Sure. I heard there were contests in some parts of Europe, but I never attended any." Now that Jayna had seen it done first-hand, she was interested in trying.

Edmund handed the axe to Jayna, hilt first. "Okay have a little bit of fun with this." giving a smile. "When I play in a game called Dungeons and Dragons. I like to play an axe wielding warrior who had the skill of axe throwing."

"Interesting. I've heard of the game, but never played it." She hefted the axe to get a better feel for the weight and balance. It was similar to throwing a knife in that she had to account for aerodynamics. Then she lined up and threw. She grinned when the axe hit the target. It was near the edge, but it was good enough for her. "I see why you like it."

"It certainly has that satisfying sound to it, when the axe hits the target." Edmund resumed throwing his knives at his target, but his aim wasn't as sharp as it should have been. He made a grunt of frustration. "I definitely am not doing too well with this tonight. I need to see if my meditation will clear my mind. So far there has been too much going on up here" tapping the side of his temple with his finger, "That I've not been able to succeed. The stuff that happened with Rowena, and then there is Vura." He turned and threw the next knife, dead center if the target with a rather loud thunk, the blade sinking all the way to its hilt.

"I know about Rowena, but what happened with Vura?" Jayna called for a second target so they could throw at the same time.

Edmund watched as the new target was brought into play. "Vura... I will be talking to Zhara about what's going on. Suffice it to say, Vura has a way of talking to someone as if they were a child and not knowing what they are talking about when it comes to sensitive things. I will not be going to her for any sort of counseling." leaving the new target for Jayna to utilize and sinking another of his knives into the older target.

"I prefer to talk to Zhara as well. I don't like the way Vura treats Neil." Jayna threw the axe a little harder than the last time. "She doesn't seem to like or respect him. I don't think she understands the Marines, either." She shook her head as she retrieved the axe. "But that's clearly another matter. I thought you and the counselor were friends."

Edmund gave out a snort, shaking his head. "I don't know, it is a complicated situation. I thought we were friends, well sort of friends. I'm not entirely certain, the lady is a puzzle and definitely hurting." Edmund stopped there before he said anything more that could be going into the more confidential matters. Vura having told him somethings in confidence.

Edmund drew in a breath, letting it out slowly before he walked over and got his knives out of the target. "I am not a counselor, and any suggestions I had made were just shot down." he frowned at the knives in his hands, then walked back to the table to set them down. Edmund placed his hands upon the table top his head bent down. "Obstinate-" he straightened up to look at Jayna. "Just...she's so stubborn-"

"She is. But, to be fair, aren't we all? She has a definite bias because she believes that Deltans are above the rest of us mortals." She chuckled, thinking of others she'd met. "So are Vulcans, in some ways. Part of my problem with her is that I don't think I need to change the way she thinks I should. The other part is that she doesn't seem to accept Neil or his way of doing things. But I want to believe she means well." She set the axe on the table. "Maybe it's that feeling of being superior that makes her think she doesn't need any help from us lesser beings? Even those who are her friends." She leaned against the table. "I'm no counselor, but I am an observer. Give her some time. Maybe--hopefully--she'll realize she can't always dish out advice without being willing to take it. Or at least consider it. And if not, I'm always here to help you work through your frustration by throwing things at targets."

"I will take you up on that. And thanks for listening to my ramblings. This is certainly has been rather good for me to let off some steam." Edmund giving a genuine smile. "I will leave my throwing axe with you, in fact take it as a gift. I do have another one." Edmund gathering up his knives. "I am going to go see Zhara, now that I am in a talkative mood." giving a wink.

"Thank you for the axe. And the company." She preferred the less-than-perfect balance of a real blade to one created on the holodeck. "Good luck with Zhara, although I doubt you'll need it." She hoped he could rebuild his friendship with the counselor. Jayna had a feeling the Deltan didn't have enough friends on the Pioneer.

She watched Edmund leave, then lined up her knives and the axe and went back to throwing. While she did so, she contemplated talking to Neil about some parts of her day--not the ones told her in confidence, of course. Still, he would definitely find them interesting.
