Mission: Episode 16 - Silent Cries
Location: The Quarters of Narin Valen - Deck 3 - USS Pioneer
Timeline: MD004 0100 hrs

The image of the bridge of the Pioneer faded into view. Seated in the Captain's Chair was Lieutenant Narin Valen, there was no one else on the bridge. The viewscreen dissolved and the image of a rather grotesque person came into view. Their skin was ghastly pale, their eyes were deep set in their skull to the point where you could not see them entirely. The being's head was large and bulbous, with an elongated face that had no mouth to speak of. Their arms were long with three fingered hands at the end of them. Images of battle could be seen in the background. It tilted its head and a voice can be heard. "You are Pioneer... We are The Silence..."

Narin’s grip tightened on the arms of the Captain’s chair as he locked eyes with the figure on the viewscreen, a chill running down his spine at the sight of its hollow gaze. “The Silence…” he repeated, more to himself than to the figure on the viewscreen. He straightened slightly. “I am of the Pioneer. What is it you want from the Pioneer?” He asked, keeping his voice steady despite the unease he felt.

"You will remember, you must remember..." The being spoke with no mouth. The sounds being heard directly in Narin's head. "We absolve you of your promise. The Silence must be heard before we can no longer speak." Time was different for the Silence. So, they did not realize that the person they spoke with was not aboard the ship when they crossed paths with the Pioneer previously.

Narin’s heart raced, voice echoing in his mind was unsettling, but he held his composure. “I remember you from my dreams…. “ Narin paused replaying the horrifying dreams in his mind from the previous nights. “What promise are you talking about? I…don’t remember making any promise. What must I remember...?”

The Silence began to advance and press against the screen. It appeared as if they would come right through the viewscreen. In fact the screen began to bulge under the pressure. "Dreams are made up. They are of the mind, we are not of the mind. We are reality. The Silence will fall... " The bulbous head tilted to one side and a slight pain could be felt in Narin'e head. The Silence probed, and reached into his mind. "You are of the Pioneer, and yet you do not know. Remember what transpires here, bring those that know. You will bring the Pioneer... Save The Silence."

Narin's hands instinctively tightened on the armrests of the captain’s chair, his heart racing as the viewscreen seemed to bulge, as if the Silence would emerge from it at any moment. His head throbbed as the creature's presence reached into his mind, sending a jolt of discomfort through him. He tried to push back against the mental intrusion. “What are we supposed to save you from?” Narin asked through gritted teeth.

"Those that wish to kill us. Those that make the noise, feed off of it. They wish to see the Silence fall, and it will, Silence will fall. They are not from here. There is too much to say, too much to try to make you understand. Your body will not take it. Come here, stop them, save the Silence and all will be revealed. There was one who was of the Pioneer. One called Vaebn, he would know the Silence." The information was conveyed with a deep raspy voice. However, the information also came fast and furious into Narin's mind. As if it were someone trying to get it all out before it was too late.

The flood of information came into Narin's mind, overwhelming yet oddly coherent in its urgency. His pulse quickened as he stared at the figure on the screen, the rasping voice echoing in his thoughts. When the name "Vaebn" was mentioned, he tried to recall anyone by that name aboard the Pioneer, but no one came to mind. Despite the confusion, their plea for help was unmistakable. He knew he had to find this Vaebn. "I’ll find them… I’ll talk to them," Narin answered, his voice steady despite the chaos.

The being finally breached through the viewscreen. Long spindly fingers on the ends of large hands and long lanky arms stretched through the screen. They reached for Narin's head and squeezed. The pressure they exerted was immense. However, they did not know their own strength. In this contact they attempted to convey all that they knew about what destroyed them, all that they could express. Instead what they wound up doing was exerting a great pressure on Narin's head. As if the poor man's head was in a vice. "The Silence will fall. The Silence is deafening. The Silence will fall, the Silence is deafening." This was reapeated over and over again as the being began to emerge from the viewscreen.

Narin clenched his jaw, fighting against the crushing force bearing down on his skull. His vision began to blur. His thoughts scattering as he desperately tried to grasp the message being forced into his mind. However, the pressure was too much. He could no longer offer any resistance. He succumbed to the pain and slipped into unconsciousness.

The Silence realized what they had done. They had pushed too far and too quick. Now, they had harmed that which they hoped would save them. Before they disconnected from this person The Silance placed one final image into his head. This was a sequence of images that they took from his own head. These visions showed how people can be scared to death. "Silence will fall..."

The connection broke and the image of the Pioneer's bridge dissolved into darkness. What followed was Narin's dreamscape. That world that everyone lives in when they dream. However, at the moment this world was littered with images that were too horrible to behold.

Narin jolted awake. He sat upright clutching his head. It was pounding with the pain from the dream. If he could still call it a dream. He sat there for several minutes, waiting for the pain to subside. As his sense of reality returned, he glanced around his room. He pushed the blanket aside and stood up. He had to find out who or what The Silence was and discover the identity of Vaebn.
