Mission: Episode 16 - Silent Cries
Location: The Quarters of Tyrigus Fry - Deck 4 - USS Pioneer
Timeline: MD0001 1400 hrs

Gus smoothed his beard and ran fingers through his unkempt hair, even going so far to use thumb and forefinger to smooth out his eyebrows.

He was nervous. Unsure if what he wanted to do was a good idea. There were regulations after-all. But that didn’t seem to bother other people and he took a deep breath again, only to blow it out loudly in a sigh.

Too loudly.

Looking around, he was relieved he was still alone in his quarters and finally he just shut his eyes, trying to shake off the awkwardness: called himself stupid and activated the holo-comm, “Corporal Fry to Ensign..Umm. Millie?”

He shut his eyes and bit at his lip.

He’d forgotten her last name. Luckily the computer was much smarter than he was and the image snowed as he waited to see if she’d answer.

Clad in a blue tank top, with a matching pair of shorts, Millie was laying on her bed, deeply enthralled in an adventure book. At the moment the hero and heroine were back to back fighting off a few opponents, when her attention was caught by the beeping sound from her view screen. "I wonder who that could be, bookmarking her page, setting the book down upon her pillow. She moved from her bed and turned on the viewscreen her eyes opening wide.

"Why hello Corporal Fry, how are you doing?" Millie quickly worked to smooth back her loose hair to hopefully make it look a little bit more neat and tidy. Oh gosh, I hope I don't look too bad. Wait, he called me uh... okay he's not scary, that is important.
She'd answered. Even remembered his name. That had to be a good start.

Right?

"Hey there, Ens...er, Mil..er. Ma'am,"he said awkwardly and nearly bit through his tongue. "Sorry if I'm bugging you. Thought I'd take a chance and see if you were busy tonight? See if you maybe wanted to get a bite and maybe check out the station a little?" Tyr's brain jumped to Warps speed and he stammered out, "Bite to eat that is. I..um. I generally don't bite."

He nearly clamped his eyes shut again and tried to keep a smile plastered to his face as he watched her.

And had to remind himself to blink.

Then realized he was holding his breath.

Millie found herself just staring at Fry for a long moment or two. Was she in shock? Did he just ask her out? This was unexpected but not unpleasant. She found her voice and answered.

"Uh, I am not busy right now, s-sure I would love to have dinner with you. And you can call me, Millie. What name do you want me to call you?" her elbows upon the desk top her chin resting cradled in her hands.

Tyr's brain froze for a moment.

She'd said yes!

Gathering his brain in bit his lip to let the thaw creep in and made sure he spoke at a normal tone. "Well, Millie. You can call me Tyr, Gus or Fry. Anything you like. For later tonight, I was thinking we might check out a space I heard from the Brigade grape-vine called Neverwinter Nights. Then maybe a late supper?"

"Neverwinter? Sounds like something out of a fantasy sword and sorcery book. And I like the name Tyr." giving a shy smile, her eyes showing great interest in the suggestion. "I-I am up for that, uh... what's the dress code for this place? I've never heard of it before, and I don't want to uh look out of place? Is this a club or something like that?" Millie prefered to know ahead just in case she needed to dress rather fancy.

Tyr started to calm down now that the tough part was over and he quickly pulled up tri-vid that had been stamped on the back of his hand while walking the stations promenade. A mythical dragon appeared over his fist breathed fire at him, displaying information in burning black letters. The dragon was gold with red nimbus and he made sure it was in the feed to Milli. "Looks like standard club wear is fine. Or you can do something they call cosplay as Adventurers of the Realm for a free round of drinks. They incorporate some sort of sonic wave experience that is supposed to be like getting a little drunk," he quoted.

Looking past the dragon he said with a twisted grin, "No idea what an Adventurer of the Realm is. When I asked the barker in the promenade he said sort of like him. He had pointy ears and was wearing some sort of face paint. Glancing to the side, he confided "At first I thought it was a Vulcan or Romulan. Said he was an Elf from someplace. Never heard of those. Might be a moon someplace."

Millie was enchanted by the advertisement of Neverwinter. Cosplay! When was the last time she had done something like this and Milie got stars in her eyes. "Ooooh Cosplay? Oh my gosh I am in for that. Moon Elf? So we can get together and choose some outfits!" Millie in her excitement was forgetting her nervousness when it came to handsome men.

Millie pushed slightly away from the desk and twirled around in her chair her arms raised up in the air. "This is exciting!" she moved back in front of the viewscreen gazing at Tyr. "So...when shall we meet? Now?" giving a giggle. Her dark brown eyes sparkling with anticipation.

Tyr blinked and said, "Well sure. I guess costumes would be fun. I don't know anything about it. Maybe you'd help me? We can get together on the promenade and figure things out?" This was starting to get more involved but that was what shore leave was for, he decided, her enthusiasm infectious.

"I'll meet up with you on the promenade, then we can work on costume ideas. Sound good?" Millie giving an encouraging smile to Tyr. This sort of thing she realized, can be a little bit daunting for some. And Millie really wanted to make certain Tyr would have some fun.
