Mission:
Episode 16 - Silent Cries
Location: The Snake Pit: Briefing Room - Deck 9 - USS Pioneer
Timeline: MD005 0600 hrs
It was early morning, Edmund was in the briefing room lost in thought after the briefing of yesterday. he also thought of his first meeting with Jeksyne the new XO of the Cure. The man was a tough nut and he needed the man to step in line and pick up the reins and get to know the others. Shaking his head, Edmund tapped on his combadge. Caling for the team that was under Jeksyne.
=^=Attention Lieutenant Vale, Warrant Officer Ryan, Sergeant T'Lar, Sergeant Fry, Sergeant Ravenna, and Sergeant Thompson, report to the briefing room pronto. Merrick out =^=
Tapping his combadge to close it, Edmund rose from his seat, to get himself some tea and wait for the gathering of Team 1.
The large feline leapt forward, its oversized canines shining in the late afternoon sun. Sina sat with her back to a fallen tree, reading her bow. Running out of time, she discarded her bow, holding the arrow up as 9if it were a knife.
As the animal pounced on her, the metal tip of the arrow, went deep into the exposed flesh of its throat.
Rolling the now dead animal off her, she checked herself for wounds and said a short prayer to the jungle spirits.
She was collecting up her gear when the call came.
Indicating that she received the message, she ordered. "Computer, end program."
The recreation of her homeworld disappeared to be replaced by the default pattern of the holodeck, an an arch appeared in one side.
Leaving holodeck 2, Sergeant Sina Ravenna double timed it to her quarters for a quick shower and a change of uniform.
"Nurse?!" called a male Ensign Operations Gold. He'd come in earlier with light plasma burns, which had been treated, but he was still complaining about pain.
"What seem to be the problem, Ensign Bowen?" Azure asked.
"My hand still hurts." Bowen replied.
"Okay." Azure said bending over to examine it. As she did so, she felt the man's hand clamp on to her behind and squeeze.
"Hands can be very useful, can't they? Now, Ensign, unless you want to go through the rest of your life with use of just one, I suggest you remove your hand from my rear, forth with. Understand?"
Bowen didn't say anything, but did remove his hand.
"Good. Get your gear together, you're being discharged." She handed him a PADD. "That's your discharge orders, and a 'script for some analgesic cream, you can pick up from Nurse Rossi on your way out."
Azure was just starting on Bowen's paper work, when she received the message.
Azure made her way over to Acting Head Nurse, MacCallum.
"Mac, I've got a meeting with my team, so I have to leave now." Azure said.
"Understood, Poison Ivy. Thanks for your help." Mac replied. "I'll take care of your paper work."
"Thanks, Mac, you're a doll. See ya later." And with that she left Sickbay.
Tyr wheezed through his tenth mile on the course. The first few were always enjoyable: the wind blowing in your face was dry thanks to the desert setting. The suck didn't hit until the last mile turn into the beach area and you were running through ankle deep sand. But then you had the half-kilometer swim that would wash off the sand and cool you down.
All of that and he could work on his tan too.
At Merrick's summons, Tyr continued jogging for a few beats, then came to a stop. Hands on knees he listened to the sea birds while his heart slapped his ears, then began walking to do a fast cool down. After a few minutes, called out for the computer to end the program and the holo-tank cracked like an egg, and he extricated himself and headed for the locker room.
As he cleaned up (and not for the first time) he wondered what sadist had programmed the tanks so that residual sand clung everywhere like a cherry on top for PT.
Ten minutes later he was uniformed, booted and assembled in the Snake Pit, slightly convinced he'd missed some sand.
Mercy sat with her eyes closed, sitting in the lotus position on living room floor. Listening to her own breathing, she felt relaxed.
This was something she often did to regain focus. It was also something her mother taught her, and she felt close to her late mother when she did it.
Merrick's summons pulled her from her reverie. She opened her eyes and rose to her feet.
Entering her bedroom, removed he relaxation clothes, took a quick shower, changed into her fatigues and and headed for the Snake Pit.
She arrived shortly after Fry. "Captain, Sergeant." She said by way of greeting.
Jeksyne strode in, as big and intimidating as a brick wall and the size to match. Donned in his Service Dress uniform, he nods to the assembled and moved to take position near to Merrick at the end of the briefing room table.
He stood silent, resolute, a picture of capable Marine that he always tried to project.
Azure was net to arrive. In her hand was a cup of Earth coffee. She looked around, her antennae helping her to scan the room. Mercy Ty and Edmund she recognised, the Lieutenant, she did not. Human Male, peak condition, War vet This she could tell by looking at him.
"Skipper, El-tee, Warrant, Fry." She said. "Looks like 'Stalker' is late, oh and I don't see Gunny."
"I believe that's called 'stirring', Azure." Sina said as she walked in. She acknowledged those present with series of nods and took a seat.
Bouncing on his toes slightly, Tyr said, "Always the same. Hurry up and wait. We getting a mission Captain," he asked?
Tessia stepped into the briefing room shortly after being summoned, her gaze briefly sweeping over those already assembled. She gave a polite nod of acknowledgment before quietly taking a seat, her posture attentive as she waited to learn what the meeting was about.
"Thanks for arriving, you made good time. In answer to your question Sergeant Fry, as soon as I find out, everyone will get the information. I have a gut feeling though that something is afoot. For the time being, I called you all to meet the new XO of the Cure and, he is also lead of Team 1. Also introductions. Not only this." turning his attention to Jeksyne. "You will be coming up with a scenario, which I will participate in, this way you can get familiarized with how this team works." he looked around at those gathered, he was getting to know the others.
"Jeksyne, you start the introductions." Edmund deciding to get things started.
Jeksyne nods, stepping up.
“I’m First Lieutenant Jeksyne Vale. I’m former enlisted with a MOS of 0372 Special Operations. I’m honored to be your new Company XO. Working together, we’ll strive for excellence. As Marines we will achieve this by overcoming all obstacles, improvising and adapting.”
"Gunnery Sergeant Tessia T'Lar, Sniper," Tessia introduced herself with a respectful nod to the new company XO. "Welcome aboard, sir."
"Warrant Officer Mercy Ryan, Senior Sniper, former Spook. Mercy said. "Welcome aboard, El-Tee, I'll be your acting XO."
Glancing about Fry hesitated, not sure if it was his turn or not but then he cleared his throat and said, "Sergeant Tyrigus Fry. Plain old rifleman, though I do have training in VIP protection." He started to shrug, then stopped and said, "I don't have a call sign. Just generally go by Tyr, Gus, Fry or. Well. You clot."
Raising his eyebrows, Edmund just slightly shook his head at Tyr's last words. "Clot?" he took a drink of his tea then said, "Ravenna, you're up next then last but not least, Azure."
"I am Sergeant Sina Ravenna, Pathfinder, Sir." The Vulcanoid said.
"Looks like I'm Lucky Last. Sergeant Azure Thompson, Corpsman, Botanist, and sometime distiller, Sir."
"And a fine distiller you are." Edmund said with honesty. "I have had some of your drink and it was quite good." looking around at those in attendance. "Any of you have any concerns, something you want to get off your chest, I am available for you to talk with. Don't know if any of you want to do that right now." a little bit of a smirk. "If not, we can call this brief meeting to a close, as I am sure the rest of you would like to get back to your training"
"Thompson's Raski, that is millet whiskey, also make a good improvised explosive." Mercy said. "Or so, I've heard."
"Great save there, Warrant." Azure teased.
Tessia glanced around, her expression briefly reflecting a that was it? sentiment before she mentally shrugged, grateful it hadn’t been something more complicated or drawn out. With a small nod, she turned and made her way out, wasting no time.
